I cannot get the VLC to work. I've checked spelling and case. No quotes, etc. Not sure what else could be wrong.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Does the "Test Connection" option in the Servers list shed any information, or does it just say, "Failed".

Remote API Failure

My run of the connection test thinks that the remote API is not installed.

The sage ex log has this:

2013-04-06 10:41:28,031 [7823635@qtp-7053639-0] WARN sagex.remote.SagexServlet - Failed to process Sage Handler!

and

java.lang.IllegalAccessError: tried to access method com.google.gson.GsonBuilder.registerTypeHierarchyAdapter(Ljava/lang/Class;Ljava/lang/ObjectLcom/google/gson/GsonBuilder; from class sagex.phoenix.remote.RemoteAPI

The only thing I could find in the phoenix log were these warnings:
2013-04-06 10:38:14,266 [Timer-8] WARN sagex.phoenix.util.var.Variable - Invalid Property Notation: prophoenix/core/enableAdvancedOptions; Must be prop:[client:server:user]:key
2013-04-06 10:38:14,266 [Timer-8] WARN sagex.phoenix.util.var.Variable - Invalid Property Notation: prophoenix/core/enableAdvancedOptions; Must be prop:[client:server:user]:key

I have java 7 update 17 installed, sage info shows that is what it is using.

Adding:
I have also removed and re-added pretty much every plugin I had installed but no go. They are all up to date but its just not working for me

The VLC test simply verifies that the Path to the VLC executable exists... and in your case it does not. So, in BMT, when you configure the VLC path, make sure you enter the full path to the vlc.exe file, ie,

Code:
C:\vlc2\vlc.exe

This is a common problem, that I've seen. For some reason, sagetv did not add the gson plugin. You can try finding the gson plugin in the libary plugin section and then install it from there (and restart sagetv server)

Thanks for the response,

It says it was installed and even though I removed and reinstalled after reading your post for a 3rd time the error is still occurring

Is there an alternate way to add it/get files ?

Just to be clear we are talking about the plugin called "Google GSON" ? I ask because you refer to the needed plugin for this app as the Phoenix Remote API but there is no such plugin, its just part of the other phoenix plugin which confused me for a while.

Adding: I have now removed EVERY plugin I had installed from sage and restarted countless times.

I have re-added plugins but I STILL get the same error about no sage-ex handler I described above.

If I go to the web page for my sage server and add /apps to the end I see sageex at the bottom. If I click on the sageex link I see a page that says:

HTTP ERROR 404

Problem accessing /sagex/. Reason:
No Sage Handler Specified.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Powered by Jetty://

Even more humorous is that if I google search for the above error "No Sage Handler Specified" I get this page with my post and the code pages on google with the line in your plugin code =(

Ok so this is maddening but....

There was a GSON-1.6.jar and a GSON-1.7.1.jar in my sagetv directory. Even with all the remove/re-adds I have performed it never deleted the 1.6.

Sage was using it. I couldn't delete it until I stopped the sage service. Now that it is gone the 1.7.1 is being used and all is well.

The full path to VLC is set in BMT, that is why I'm perplexed to why it won't work.

Glad it is working.

Well, if the path is correct, then maybe it's a permissions thing. ie, does the sagetv server have permissions to see and run the vlc.exe file?

I have the same problem as jeff when I try to transcode I get the following:

SageTV did not create stream url

No transcoding works but since the video are full HD video streams it stutters. The computer that is is transcoding is a AMD FX8120 8-Core 3.89Ghz. Also when I start a transcode I get a log file in C:\Program Files (x86)\SageTV\SageTV\userdata\Phoenix\streaming\{DEVICE ID}\ but I never see the transcoded file being created. In the log file I get "Warning: option --mms-caching no longer exists."

The following is what I tired:

1. Move VLC to directory C:\VLC and gave it permission in Win7 to everyone with full permissions
2. Gave full permission in Win7 to everyone to C:\Program Files (x86)\SageTV\SageTV\
3. In BatchMediaTool Website under Phoenix Streaming Service->VLC Options->Command->C:\VLC\vlc.exe
4. Tested the server connection and showed all green and everything configured

Can anyone offer any other suggestions?

Exclamation SageTV did not create stream url

I have the same exact problem as you and Jeff. I also verified that I have permissions setup correctly for VLC. I also have all green checkboxes for the connection check:

I had this issue a while back; and, all I had to do was upgrade my java version from 1.6 to 1.7. However, I have the correct version of Java as well this time. VLC.exe just launches into memory without doing anything at all. I just get an empty log file like you.

I'm not sure what else to try. It's not an issue with insufficent system resources or timing out since VLC.exe just sits in memory without taking up any CPU cycles.

mkanet,

What OS are you running Sage on? I am looking to move Sage to a Win7 machine to try it ( and fix my Playon issue)

I'm using Windows 7 64bit. I doubt it's an OS related issue. I'm on the same OS that Phoenix streaming used to work on. I dont think I changed anything related to sageTV except for update some sageTV plugins related to the sageTV webserver and Phoenix.

Do others who have this problem also not get .ts files? ...just a log file with basically nothing in it?

For those of you who are getting are not getting a stream on your android device and vlc.exe is dormant on the server PC while it's supposed to be transcoding (0% CPU usage on vlc.exe), its most likely due to a bug in the version of VLC you're using.

I played with different VLC versions... the only versions that seem to work for me are:

32bit VLC 2.0.6 TwoFlower
64bit VLC 2.0.4 TwoFlower

I'm actually using 64bit VLC; since I have a 64bit OS; and, seems to have marginally better performance than the 32bit version on my PC.

EDIT: All playback issues resolved after switching to MX Player. Does anyone know how to define which player to use as the default player for Android Phoenix? I keep getting presented with the same 3 players every time without a checkbox to select the app I choose as the default.

That dialog should have two buttons that say "use Once" or "Always" once you choose the player.

I do get a dialog with a "Once" or "Always" checkbox options when I open media files files; such as, .ts, mp4, 3pg when using a file manager.

Actually, the dialog box that has the checkboxes is a slightly different dialog box than the one without checkbox options (shown above). The one shown above is slightly larger in size. The one with checkbox options is a little smaller.

For whatever reason, when phone receives streaming media from VLC, I am presented with a different dialog box entirely than the one with checkboxes. The OS seems to have a clear distinction between the two media files and whatever format VLC streaming is.

So after doing some research... this may be my doing

In android there are a couple of ways to have the user "choose" which application to use. I'm using an api called createChooser() which takes care of alot of the details. But, it would appear that when you use createChooser() you don't get the option to do it always... maybe because I'm asking for a chooser.

I'll have to rewrite the code to not use the chooser

Thanks so much stuckless!!! I spent more time than I'd like to admit trying to figure out why this was happening.

BTW: Also, something somewhat related... maybe you could consider adding the ability for the user to save the default streaming quality as well (for those of us who only use one streaming profile). Whether I'm connected to a wifi hotspot or 4G LTE, I always end up selecting the "HD" quality setting each time.

Michael, if you add both of those to the bug tracker, i'll look into it.

https://code.google.com/p/sagephoenix/issues/list

The first one is an easier fix, and as such, I'll try to get that one done this weekend, and put out a new release. the second one, is a good idea, but requires more effort, so it probably won't get done this weekend
