Because this is transcoding on the fly, is your server powerful enough to actually transcode the stream? Do you see any .ts files being created?
Server is a quad core phenom.. it should be able to handle it, but maybe it cannot

I don't see any .ts files being created..

I do like all the other features of the app though, so the streaming thing while it would be cool if I can get it working, not sure I need it

My server was a quad core phenom and it was working there... so I think you have enough horsepower... the fact that you are not seeing any .ts files and just a log file, that is odd. Are you using vlc 2.0+?

Also, if you use the No-Transcode option on the tablet, it might work for some shows... because it doesn't use VLC for that option.

This is the start of the "Schedule Recordings" enhancement. I thought I should get it out to the group, so that you can test/verify that it is working. (I don't use these features myself, so I've done some limited tested to verify that it works, but not much more)

To schedule a manual recording, you search the Airings, and then long press on it, and press "Record". Once a manual recording has been created, you can long press on it again, to either "Cancel Recording" or "Set Recording Options" for padding and quality.

I'll continue to work on favorites and conflict resolution. I was hoping to have favorites out in this build, but there is just SO MUCH to the favorites stuff, that it's going to take some time
So I'm clear on this....there's no "guide" per se, you basically search for the program you're looking for, correct - in other words you need to know what it is you want to record, and then "search" finds all the airings, for example "The Lange & O'Creepy Exchange"....

and...when I long=press, a "M" for manual appears (nice), but the recording doesn't get scheduled....is that a locked-feature?

Correct, there is no guide... Having a "guide" (at least a grid view guide) was not something was considered. So, yeah, search, and the record.

So, when you schedule a manual recording, you can go into the scheduled recordings view (and refresh it), and you don't see the recording? I do on my setup. Also, are you running the latest phoenix... there were changes in there required for this to work correctly. And lastly, if you manually schedule a recording, can you check the web server's upcomming recordings to see if it makes the list?

More likely "My Bad"... I should have updated the "Phoenix" check in the app as well, to idientify that a newer phoenix build is also required

This is one way... another way is to build views that catch the sort of stuff you're interested in. For example, you could make a view that shows you all the "intelligent suggestions" or all the upcoming action films, or whatever. Then you can pull up that view from time to time and record the stuff that looks interesting.

*Disclaimer* I'm assuming that this is how it works; I haven't actually tried this.

That is correct... for example, I have a view for TMN movies... So yeah, using the vfs views you can create view of specific interests, and then manually record stuff from those views.

Not in this thread, I don't think. There's lots of stuff in this sticky:

Editing views

If you have gemstone, views can also be created using the GUI interface, though it's a bit more limited.

And the customizations you do within Gemstone cannot be exported or used by this UI...only within Gemstone....sorry.

But any custom vfs entries you create in the user vfs files can be used in Gemstone, Phoenix and this android UI.

Tried this (older) app and setup steps a couple of months ago but no luck.

Tried again day before yesterday but again no luck.

Tried even harder yesterday and found previous self inflicted wounds from multiple corrupted Java's (that took some surgery to remove and install correctly) and an old service using port 8080 that I had completely forgotten about before I got the app to behave nice to me on my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket.

I think after cleaning up previous messes on my Sage server it only took me 5-10 minutes of effort to install the plugins and get my phone working.

Today (after looking thru this thread) I got the VLC streaming working (again in short order). I've started tweaking the transcoding parms to get the best pic and sound depending if I'm on Wi-Fi or 3g/4g networks.

Thanks goodness for this thread and those that have gone before me. As a vote of confidence I have just done a Buy thru the app. Keep up the good work. (Had to exit/start the app before the Buy Upgrade was removed from the menu.

Ok, so I finally decided to upgrade to Java 1.7 but when I use my android phone to stream it just streams like it used to. (No option for transcode) when I look to make sure I have the latest update from the Play Store it says I'm up to date.

Do I need to be connected via the Internet instead of Wifi to see the transcode options?

Go the Server's Screen and long press on your server connection and then do a Test Connection. This will report if vlc is configured. The menu options to transcode are only available if you vlc test passes.

Thank you Stuckless. Turns out I had the Quotes " in the VLC location info thinking it would be needed because of the space in "Program Files (x86)" but it didn't work with it but worked fine when I removed them.

Not having any luck, but I decided to build a Win7 Machine for my SageTV Server duties and move it off of WHS, partly for this but also due to some issues I cannot seem to resolve with the Playon plugin and WHS.. PLayon works on my Client within Sage..

Anyway I love the Phoenix app even if I cannot play anything yet, it is great for checking status of recording and such

Did you verify your VLC path in bmt, and make sure that you don't have quotes around it? I thought I'd ask, since removing quotes around the path, was the fix for one user.
