1) Can you please try accessing that file in the plex.js directly and post the output. the url is http://userass@x.x.x.xort/sagex/...-1410545-0.mpg

Not sure how to access the file directly in plex.js, but in other posts I've seen the URL you mention, so I assume you mean to hit that URL in a browser with an existing recorded show. Accessing http://plex:plex@127.0.0.1:8083/sage...-1410545-0.mpg, I get a prompt for "you are logging on to 127.0.0.1 yadda, yadda and I click okay. The following is then displayed:

2) Usually this error occurs when you have text in your bmt entry for that file which the scanner/agent cannot decipher. I thought we took care of this but maybe not.
3) please zip and post your Plex Media Scanner.log, as well as the BMTAgentTVShows.log

Attached.

4) are you seeing all of your files in plex, just without metadata, or are they not even showing up at all?

Nothing shows at all in Plex. Empty Section.

Issues lies in the scanner, but i believe it has to do with the metadata which is stored in bmt. Looking into it...

Alright - The issue is that the scanner uses the ShowCategoriesString in order to determine if the current file is a movie or not. If scanning TVShows, then we do not want to push movies onto the media stack.

If we don't have a show category, then there is limited other ways for us to determine if a show in the your sage recordings (movies and tvshows) directories is a movie.

Lets try this before i determine if it makes sense to me to try and create so error checking code.

access that single show via BMT web browser and perform an update to it searching for new metadata. rerun the plex:GetMediaFileForName in your browser again and see if ShowCategoriesList is populated. if so, then try removing your sage directory from plex and rerunning the scan.

If updating the metadata doesn't do the trick, try to manually change the ShowCategoriesList via BMT for that single show. I suspect however if that is not being set you are not using BMT to automatically find all metadata.

Hmmm... I went into BMT and ran the "Find Metadata" option. I then unchecked the "preserve original metadata" as I noted a message indicating some fields couldn't be udpated. The following is the result when I access the URL :

It doesn't look like anything has changed in the ShowCategoriesList section, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I looked for this field in BMT, but didn't see it. Can you point me in the right direction on that one? You are right, I don't use BMT actively... If there is a way for it to be configured to run automatically, I am unaware of it.. and I'm not one for manually tweaking this content all the time... Am I missing something?

Recorded TV files have always seemed to get metadata automatically with base SageTV, I always thought that using BMT to manually update content metadata would be mostly useful for imported media...

1) The scanner and agent rely HEAVILY on BMT Metadata. If you are not usin g BMT as the primary source of your metadata, there is no garauntee that the scanner and agent will work properly.
2) yes there is a way for BMT to auto update that info. You do that by performing the following steps.
IN BMT webui you should see Configure->Phoneix->Fanart/Metadata There is a check box for Automatic Fanart/Metadata
I would then do a library rescan from the top menu Refresh
3) On the edit metadata page for an item its the Genres (i believe)

The " automatic" box for auto update of fanart/metadata was already selected... I re-ran the refresh option to look for new media as well.. The genre variable appears to tie to "Show Category" which is populated as "Comedy" in this example..

Should I remove the Plex section, re-create it, and re-check the error? I don't still don't see anything in the ShowCategoriesList section in the XML document...

The ShowCategoriesList has to be populated in order for the scanner to work properly. What happens when you update the metadata in BMT on just that piece of content? does anything change? AFAIK the ShowCategoriesList should also be populated with a min. of what is contained in the ShowCategory. I may need to go back to Sean on this (developer of BMT) and ask if that is the case. There may be some settings in BMT which need to be checked that I am not aware of.

There is also a setting in the SageTV -> MEtadata settings which says Update .properties file when changed. Is that checked? The scanner actually does nothing with the properties file, but the Agent does try and retrieve info from the properties file. While that shouldn't have any bearing on the scanner, it may...so is that checked :-)

Yeah - you will get that error every time if the ShowCategoriesList isn't populated.

Hmmm... when I change "genre" from "Comedy" to "Drama", Showcategorieslist is still not populated... Since I've never seen it populated, I'm assuming you mean I should see at least one variable (eg., comedy or drama) after that reference in the XML file...

odd. I'll check with Sean on that. in the meantime can you temporarily remove that 1 file from your directory and try removing directory from plex, readding and rescanning to see what the result is please

I checked Alcatraz, Independent Lens, and American Idol.. all with different Genre's... none of them populate a value under "ShowCategoriesList" in the XML file when checked...

I have already reached out to Sean and gotten a response. I am working through a few questions with him before posting back my findings.

Is all of your stuff up to date afa software and plugins go? Sage Server , sagex apis, bmt, etc.?

Should be... I installed Sagex, Jetty, & BMT yesterday via a placeshifter UI... I went in and changed my user, password, and port and that's all the config I've verified other than the BMT config we've troubleshooted in this thread...

I did apply that __init__.py path, but not familiar with the ramifications there...

the scanner logs finder my recorded tv folder and seem to be handing off the file names to the sagetv/bmt/scanner/agent and then we get the error I've forwarded in the logs..

Let me know if there's anything else I should be checking...

It is a bit curious that one field isn't updating... and no one else has run across it..

One last thing... following is my version information.. just to make sure it's not an issue with versions I'm running:

you have to have the full file path... like above in order for the stock sagex api call to work
