Might be on to something with the convert not clearing out of ram properly. I am running a pretty solid 64 bit quad core with 6 gigs of ram with 1 gig java heap for sage. I also am running itunes 64 bit along side sage server. About 6 months ago I got the OOM error once too and thought it was itunes hang related....but I did convert a few videos to appletv format at that time frame. Since then I haven't converted anything nor has that error resurfaced.

How do I change the heap size with windows 7 32 bit version? Is it still just a registry setting?
And I assume 1 gig is probably my limit?

I hit the heap max size again last night! It also stayed pretty high after that as well. It was only after I restarted sage that it went down to a small level again. I wonder if something isn't letting go of the memory? Is there anyway to see who's allocating the heap?

I don't know if/how many thumbnails you preview horizontally at once. I was doing 4 that would "slide" to the left one at a time. I started getting noticeable slowdowns as I added more HD files and such. On a chance, I dialed it back to rendering one thumbnail at a time.

Maybe not quite as cool as seeing four thumbnails per folder at a time, but problem solved on my older HD200 extender.

Well I bumped my heap to 1 GB and I almost hit the limit!
It looks like I maxed out at 956MB out of 1038MB so far.

Wow.. That's pushing it! Can I push the heap more than 1GB?

What the h#$% is using so much memory?

Jim

Extenders.
Graphic intensive plugins.
Large amounts of imported videos and photos.

IIRC 1 GB of heap is the max Java supports.

I've got my system set up for 0x500 (1280), as that appears to be near the absolute maximum that Java will accept. Any higher and Sage won't start. I still top it out occasionally (at least once a week), and REALLY need to start pulling out plugins and start to install them one at a time until I figure out what the issue is (and what plugin is causing my grief). We get the SCOD quite frequently, and a quick restart of Sage always fixes it (that is if there are no recordings being done, if so we just live with it until the recording session is complete).

I noticed Sage is more unstable since I bumped to 0x500 (1280)

I think I'm going to change it back to 0x400 or maybe I'll try 0x450?

Might want to look at your Java version as well. I noticed the newest versions of Java 6 update 31 and Java 7 both seemed to cause spinning circles and lock ups for my setup. I've uninstalled all other versions and reverted to Java 6 update 26 and all is well again.
