I'd also highly recommend you start with one or two Boxee's. Besides the reasons given by Slugger I've been reading about people having network issues when more than one Boxee is running. Before spending a lot of money I'd suggest doing some searching and reading over on the Boxee forums.

And you're welcome There are many others to thank for this as well as you will see if you read some of the posts here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!fo...getv-boxee-dev. This really is a community effort.

This is getting very good! Thanks for bringing to us a pseudo extender. So to watch live tv I need the boxee box not the software on a PC. Do I have this right? Thanks.

Yes that's the current state of things. It's a limitation/bug in the older version (0.9.23.xxxxx) of the software for computers. It may be (magically) fixed when/if the newer software (v1.2 or newer) that's on the Boxee Box is also released for computers.

Yes, and right now the only way to watch "live" is by selecting something from the EPG. I'm working on getting "live TV" to work from the Recordings sub-menu but no ETA on that right now.

That's the way I watch Live TV from my HD-200! We (the family) just fire up the EPG and press the remote ok button when we see something we like! I need to get me one of those Boxee boxes soon!

Remember, this is still in the alpha stage. There are bugs, EPG navigation is slow, there is missing functionality, etc. I just don't want you to go out and spend $190 bucks and feel like you got ripped off Having said that, we are continuing to work on it and it's steadily improving.

ok, so I'm struggling with UNC again (was previously working)

I have z:,//wpcsvr01 on my PC client, and that's fine, but it doesnt work on the boxee box.

files are actually in z:\Recorded.

I read the UNC path examples but they have \\<server-name> how do you enter a \ on the boxee ?

Will

The box will not work if you put in a servername, use the IP address instead. (So use z:,//xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)

An "Alpha State" extender is better than no extender at all! Keep up the good work guys! It is highly appreciated!

What do we have to do to update this - is it obvious from within Boxee (for the PC in my case).

Boxee should automatically pull down the new version for you when you start the SageTV app, it will all be transparent, so you won't see that it's updating etc. but once started you should see all the new stuff under TV

Does this automatic update process works for the boxee box as well as the PC based boxee?

How does the Boxee software client (running the alpha SageTV application) compare to the SageTV software client in terms of codecs, etc? Does the Boxee software "just work", or do you have to spend as much effort configuring codecs as the SageTV client?

Will,

Set the debug level in Boxee to "Debug" and attach a log. In case you don't know how to get the log for the Box:

- From a browser go to http://boxeebox:8080
- Logs are halfway down the page or so, click on "Get Latest".
- WHen the screen refreshes just click on the newest log to download it.

This is a known issue on the Boxee Box (running newer Boxee software than the PC version) unfortunately. They're aware of it, are able to reproduce it and I'm hopeful the next release will fix it.

The work around I have found is to allow Guest access to that folder/share with no password. (My shares are on a WHS and I have enabled Guest access to the entire \Videos folder and then playback works in the SageTV for Boxee app).

fine, i accept that,

i did have it working on an older version of the app though, using a name rather than the ip address, why has it stopped ?

boxee on pc works with either.

this is a server2k8 share i am allowing all and anonymous access...

very odd that it was working before, have you made a change that prevents the dns name ?

Will

You mean it was working with an older version of the SageTV for Boxee app on the Boxee Box?

The Boxee Box hasn't been able to use hostnames from the SageTV for Boxee app as far as I know?

There are a number of variables here:
* SageTV for Boxee app version (getting it from the repository or from SVN though the two are pretty close right now)
* Boxee Box software is very different than the PC/OS X/Linux version of Boxee
* Boxee Box software was recently updated and that has wreaked havoc with SMB connections in some environments.
