Here's what the next build will look like. The second picture shows a bar that pops up and lets you jump to show starting with the letter selected.

The video preview works as well so if you are watching something and then hit "back" it continues to play in the thumbnail area.

Whenever I add anything to the UNC path the "Path: smb:\\localhost\..." shown above never changes so it always defaults to locahost. If it means anything, I am running Win 7 64 bit. I will install boxee on my Macbook later tonight and see if I get the same results.
I think this is WHS related. I'm working with somebody from the boxee forums with a similar issue. In that setup the app works on the RC1 version of the 1.2 firmware but not the RC2 version. See this Boxee issue: http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-10848

Aside from that, this project is looking very promising. Great work guys!
I couldn`t get it to run on my Macbook either but i can`t get my Windows machines to work at all. tmiranda pointed me to an issue with WHS RC2 so I will follow up once i get that fixed.

I hadn't seen this in the thread yet. I was playing around with boxee tonight and found out how to edit the home page. First you open C:\Program Files (x86)\Boxee\skin\boxee\720p\Home.xml in Notepad++ as an administrator. Then scroll down to line 1744 and replace feed://queue/?count=10 with http://yourservername:8080/sage/public/Rss/Search?searchType=TVFiles&SearchString=&DVD=on&sort2=title_asc&TimeRange=-999&pagelen=10&sort1=airdate_desc&filename=&Video=on&search_fields=title you will get a rather ugly but functional listing of your recent recordings on the home page in place of the Queue column on the right.

I haven't tried to make this look any better yet but it is a start.

Or you can add our project's custom app repository and install our app, which simulates the SageTV interface within Boxee. It's far from complete, but the recordings menu is functional and displays metadata, etc. for each recording. It will eventually provide additional functions like the ability to delete recordings, mark them as watched within Sage, etc. See this post for details on how to install the Sage for Boxee app. (Note, it's an early preview/pre-alpha build, but you at least get to see where we're going with this.)

AppleTV2?

I'm trying to understand if I can use an AppleTV2 for this.
From some quick readings of the boxee forums, it appears that boxee cannot run on AppleTV2, but xbmc can. But, I'm not sure what the architecture is in that case.
Is it that the AppleTV2 is acting as an extender for a boxee service running elsewhere on the network?
So, if I put boxee on my media server (which happens to be where Sage is running) and boxee-ize an AppleTV2, and put said AppleTV2 in my bedroom, would I be able to use the sagetv boxee stuff?

Thanks,

Mitch

From what i have read boxee cannot run ont he ATV2 only ATV1.

Boxee is not in any way a client server software. each instance of boxee is a standalone instance in that it doesn't communicate with the other boxees in any way.

it will communicate with your online boxee account in order to pull your apps in and queue, feeds, etc on each boxee install, but thast about all.

SageTV for Boxee will make your boxee install running our app act as an extender for SageTV.

u will be able to use the sageboxee "stuff" anywhere you have the sageboxee app installed.

Does that answer your questions?

Since Boxee is a fork of XBMC, is it possible or simple to port this app to XBMC? I ask this only cuz ATV2 does run XBMC and its half the price of a Boxee Box.

No idea at all. To be honest this is not even on my radar right now.

Theoretically it should be possible yes but I dunno how xbmc handles apps. If I get a chance I'll try it and report back.

Atv2 not for digital hdtv

I have an Atv2 which is jailbroken and running XBMC. It is not a reasonable replacement for the Hd300. It doesn't have hardware decoding for anything except H264 video. It can play back my recordings from analogue cable but it stutters and buffers terribly on recordings from my Hdhomerun. I suppose you could transcode all the recordings to H264 mkv.
Judging from other postings on the xbmc forums, I don't think this is a high priority for them.

Certainly not wanting to take anything away from the exiting work you are doing but I don't think it is an extender just because the client can run on an embedded platform. To me it is more a new client similar to the existing XBMC SageTV client scripts and the web interface. A true extender uses the same files, skins, plugins etc remote keystrokes etc that run on the host.

Placeshifting with Boxee???

Is it or could it be possible to use the Boxee app to placeshift to a sagetv server?? Maybe it already can?? I haven't tried it yet and am watching this thread and anxious to try it out soon!

Ok, let's not call it an extender, but rather an alternative, light weight client providing:
  • A minimal subset of Sage client/extender features that allows the user to load their list of Sage recordings, select one and play it back with DVR capabilities (pause, rewind, ff, etc.)
  • Add as many of these clients as you wish as there are no licensing restrictions; this allows users to add to existing systems or complete unfinished builds in progress; something you simply cannot (legally) do anymore via Sage extenders and client software.

"Placeshifting" as done by the Sage PS software won't happen. The PS protocol is proprietary and not available for us to reproduce. Could something (i.e. VLC) be setup on the Sage server to transcode and stream recordings on demand such as is done by the web server plugin, mobile plugins/apps? Possibly, but that's not on my radar. We're simply looking to provide an alternative for playback of Sage content over the LAN. This is a way to add additional clients to an existing Sage server. There are no plans to do real time transcoding. Instead, we provide the Boxee app a file path to a recording on a network share and the Boxee software does what it sees fit to play it back.

My goals with this project are simple:

Eventually my extenders are going to die. I want to be able to replace them with a similar device that will allow me to playback and delete these recordings and I do not want to have to build PC clients at each TV. Basic Sage server configuration and other Sage tasks (view/config favourites, view EPG, configure recordings from EPG, etc.) would also be nice, but not absolutely necessary for me because the various web UI plugins allow me to do all I need via my laptop, desktop, iPhone, etc.

Basically, I want to be able to replace my HD200s when they die with a similar device and I'm thinking the D-Link Boxee Box can be that device. Is it going to be a full fledged Sage UI? No. Is it going to allow me to replace a dead HD200 with something that allows me to play back my recordings? Yes, or at least that's the goal.

Since they are already interacting with the web server, they could likely interact with the iOS streaming plugin like I do on iOS/Android devices...

Sure it does... You do need to start LiveTV on a proper SageTV Client/Extender or a recording, but you can stream that just fine...
