Guess I should by that extra 2GB so I can return the 4GB back to my other computer who keeps asking when it's going to get it's full memory back!
Like I said, I have 12 GB of memory and get halts *all the time* (at least once a day). Also, I *don't* get halts when using Windows Media Center or when using the QAM tuners on the Prime. It just happens with SageDCT.

Because the log files are so enormous, I've given up ever getting this to work reliably. I'm waiting for Google to do something with SageTV and perhaps release a version with native Prime support. If it becomes obvious that Google isn't going to do anything with SageTV, or Andrew decides not to fix the problem in SageDCT (and I really don't know why he'd bother since there's not much in it for him) I'll transition to WMC. If I could figure out some way to get a useful log of the problem I'd do that. But that would require a text editor that doesn't choke on a file several GBs in size. As I said, I have 12 GB of RAM.

So, what's the point in having a verbose log that's too big to open?
It's not normally that big. I run it on verbose all the time, for weeks...

Who makes the extender, and what are the advantages over XBOX?

Ceton Corp.

The difference is the Echo along with the Q is a complete hardware media solution (like TiVo), so you won't have to maintain a PC with add-on tuners (the Q server works on cablecard).

But, we don't know how much it's going to cost or when it will be available, other then later this year.

I was finally able to isolate the section of the log where the failure occurs and sent a copy to you. The reason the log files are so big is that there's a LOT of this:

Code:

Note that you get several of these a second and they're all with a size of 1316. The pattern changes around the time of the failure to this:

Supposedly the Ceton devices are actually manufactured by Silicondust, so perhaps the Echo will be compatible.

Ceton is its own manufacturer. Silcondust also manufacturers the Hauppague cablecard device.

That's because you have "Debug Data Receive" enabled.

It shows that data stops arriving to SageDCT, then shortly after the tuner disappears.

I have seen much more reliable operation since installing the 228 beta from SD.

Don't know what changed from the release 128 version, but seems to work fine for me.

I think the most recent software is 224beta1, but the most recent firmware is 217.

Dynamic Tuner Allocation

I'm using SageDCT 2.2.0 and sharing a HDHomeRun Prime between two PC running SageTV.

One problem I am having is that SageTV in one PC would try to use a tuner that was being used by the other PC, resulting in a "No Signal" error. I am using the "Static tuners" option in SageDCT, and the "Automatically select from available tuners" option in HDHomeRun config.

Is there any configuration in SageTV to make it aware that a tuner is not available and it should try the next available one?

or should I disable the "Dynamic Tuner Allocation" in HDHomeRun?

Upgrade to Sage DCT

I'm currently on 2.0 of Sage DCT. I understand that to upgrade to 2.2.0, I uninstall with Control Panel and re-install; however, my prior version installed in the Program Files (X86)\babgvant.com directory. If I install the 64-bit version of Sage DCT, it will (probably) create a new directory under the Program Files tree. Do I need to move files from the X86 tree to the Program Files tree in order to maintain my existing configuration?

I'm trying to head off a potential problem here....thanks to anyone who can help.

Win 8 Cosumer Preview x64 - Potential Issue - [Resolved]

Does anyone have SageDCT and the HDHR Prime working under x64 version of Windows 8 Consumer Preview?

I tried setting it up today and every time I try and tune a channel through SageTV, the green light indicating a channel is in us on the HDHR Prime flashes for a second and then goes off and no video appears on my monitor.

Through the Prime and SageDCT software, I know that the channel is getting tuned but I can't figure out what is causing the immediate stop thereafter. When this happens, SageTV thinks that the channel is tuned and recording.

I have a dual boot system and have gone back and made sure that the settings are identical to my Win 7 setup and that the Win 7 version is still working fine. I've also made sure that the HDHR Prime is working fine in the Win 8 setup using the Prime software and Windows Media Center.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks.

RESOLVED - The problem was a mapping/permissions issue for my separate SageTV recording drive/directory that wasn't carried over from my Windows 7 setup to the new Windows 8 install. Once I realized this and added in the same mapping and read/write permissions to the SageTV recording drive/directory the problem went away and SageTV/SageDCT/HDHR Prime appear to be working as expected. I'll continue testing the SageTV/SageDCT/HDHR Prime setup under Windows 8 x64 and will update this message if new problems/issues appear.

Exclamation Try this, jlmdxtv

AFAIK, it is absolutely critical that the Windows Firewall service the NIC is turned ON. The firewall being active actually allows the path for communication to occur. Just make sure the firewall profile does allows all communication (nothing blocked, not configured or disabled). I wish there was an exact firewall configuration for the HDHR Primes listed somewhere, but I have not found it.

Firewall off -- problems. On but allowing all communications -- working.

Thanks, john
What is your pagefile set at? What video card are you using? What are you using for your video renderer in Sage?

As far as buying a Ceton card to see if the problem goes away, that is an expensive dice roll and, in my opinion, likely to crap out. If this were a wide-spread problem, maybe, but many many others (like me) are currently using HDHR Prime without issue. You may have the same or similar issues with Ceton. Your money might be better spent upgrading the OS.

Hi doncote0,

I've been running the Prime without the firewall, on its own network segment, and have recorded dozens of shows that way under XP. Maybe WIN7 needs it, but XP doesn't seem to. I've had it both on and off, and with it off, I seem to be getting similar or better results.

I'm not using the SageTV Server to view the recordings, so the video card isn't an issue for me. My page file size is automatic - something like 4GB. I've had the heap at 1024 but that didn't seem to help.

I'm going to wait a couple more days before saying I've got this working reliably, but I've had 0 halts in 3 days with lots of recordings done. I'll report back to this forum with all my settings clearly outlined later in the week.

I think you're right about using Windows 7. Part of my fix was to set commercial skipping to "Play nice". I'd like it not to play nice, but I've seen halts otherwise. So my next upgrade (if my halts aren't really gone for good) will be a quad I5 or I7 on Windows 7 instead of the Centon.

doncote0: are you running WIN7? What processor? Prime or Centon?

I should learn how to put up a poll to see who's reliably using XP vs WIN7, I3, I5, I7, Prime vs Centon, etc. I'm guessing my setup is a bit dated.

best, john

I use a 2 core / 4 thread SNB i5 (essentially an i3 w/ turbo-boost) in my SageTV server. Unless you're doing a lot of CPU based transcoding, or something else that requires a lot of hardware an i3 is plenty, step up to a 4 core / 4 thread i5 if you need more power.
