Confirmed that we're not currently generating scn files for PRIME tuners when set to Digital Cable. Will be fixed in the next beta.

The frq file is produced by sage.. the scn file is produced by silicon dust.

This is what the scn file looks like.

Sage uses the scn file to make the frq file when you do the scan in sage.

EDIT: I just saw your post... can you go backwards with the firmware?

Including why it worked for me. I already had an HDHR installed and running so it must have picked up the existing .scn file.

Don't know. Actually, I don't even know whether the firmware or the software is the problem, or whether they have to be the same number. I might be able to download the latest non-beta software and see if it will install the firmware.

Update: Actually I just tried it, and it doesn't work. Apparently you can't revert to an earlier software or firmware, so I'm stuck waiting until the next beta release. Is that flaky or what?

Correction: You can revert to an earlier software by uninstalling the newer version and then installing the older version, but it doesn't change the firmware and it appears that the firmware is the problem. Using the older software still doesn't produce a *.scn file, even after rescanning everything. Guess I'm stuck until they fix the firmware.

I could almost create a file like that in a spreadsheet if I know what "major" and "minor" were supposed to be, or how to get that information. Looks like it's just a text file, and there are only 66 channels to cover. In fact "major" looks like the same number for all the channels and only "minor" really changes. The relevant frequencies must be available somewhere, maybe in the QuickTV folder?

Better than waiting a month or two for a new beta release.

I can get the frequencies directly from the HR's status page, so the only thing I can't reproduce is the "major" and "minor" numbers. Mod. looks like it's always the same, so that must be the tuner number? Or is it the same info for all three tuners?

OK, here's what I created using the setup parameters and the information from the Prime's status page. I don't really have any idea what "major" and "minor" refer to, so those values are just made up. I'm also assuming "mod" refers to the tuner number. Everything else is accurate though.

Can you find somebody near you with a HDHR that you could borrow? You could then use that to create the .sc file. Alternatively, maybe somebody with a HDHR who uses the same cable company and lineup could send you their .scn file.

If you know someone from that area. Again, I think all I need is a clue to what the "major" and "minor" designations mean. The rest of it should work.

not sure what the major and minor refer too.. but I know for mine..
maj=1008 and minor=cable channel number. so if you look back a couple posts to my scn file, all the ones that import in nicely into sage have 1008 as the major. so for mine WHDHDT is on channel 807. So my minor number is 807.

The ones that have something different in major - They need to be remapped in sage. So I make sure all the ones I care about have the 1008 for the major to make my life easier!

I'd start one channel at a time to test and then add in the rest as you go along.

Good luck!

Jim

oh.. and the other thing is make sure the name at the end matches what Zap2it has for the station name. That will also help the channel import.

Like one of my "raw" station names that SD put in was "WHDH HD" I had to change that to WHDHDT for the sage to recognize it without manipulation.

I thought "phy" was the channel number for tuning? So tuning is composed of a physical channel number along with a program number. I assumed "CH" was the channel number assigned by Zap2it. I guess I'm a bit confused. If "minor" is the channel number, is that the number in Zap2it, or the number that the tuner uses. And if the latter, what is "phy"?

So, for instance, the line for the local ABC affiliate in HD, which in Zap2it is designated as WJLADT is:

Quote:
CH:210 major:1008 minor:801 prog:341 phy:58 frq:429000000 mod:0 #:WJLADT
The Zap2it channel is 210, and the tuner tunes to 58-341 at 429Mhz. There are numerous stations on channel 58, but they have different program numbers.

Then I would try
Code:
CH:1 major:1008 minor:201 prog:341 phy:58 frq:429000000 mod:0 #:WJLADT
I think the first CH is just the ordering it finds the stations. I don't think it means anything to sage. I'm no expert.. but if you look at my scn file that I posted.. That's where I'm making all my assumptions from.. That and I had to play with all of this not too long ago.

I will try that. (Assume you mean "minor:210" not "minor:201")

Alas, still not working. Worth a try, I guess, but Sage isn't even recognizing the tuners. I'm going to delete everything and try to enable from scratch. Prior setups might be messing things up.

Success! (sort of)

I'm having some success after renaming the scn file with the same tuner ID and number. Sage went through a scan and found all 66 channels. The problem is that I still get "no signal" when I try to watch them, so something isn't working. I suspect that the frequencies aren't correct, or are off by a little. By the way, I'm pretty sure "mod" means "modified," and a 0 means it hasn't been modified since the initial scan.

Getting closer, anyway.

It's working!

Apparently the only thing I didn't do correctly was to compute the NTSC carrier frequency from the displayed tuner frequency by subtracting 1750000. Once I did that everything tuned perfectly!

WOOOOOHOOOOO! Watching the Superbowl playoffs in HD!

The call sign is all that matters to get the listing, the channel number can be changed if you want it to match the number in their guide, I don't really care about that, so I have followed the format of the few stations where it recognized the call sign...I will check my .scn file when I get home to see if I can shed more light on how to create one from scratch...

Here's the final version for Comcast Manassas Digital QAM

Here's the final version of the file "Silicondust HDHomeRun Tuner 13113B39-1-0-QAM.scn".

One important nitpick. SageTV won't recognize tuner 0. It recognizes tuners 1 and 2 without a problem. Perhaps there's a maximum number of QAM tuners set in some parameter?
