babgvant, I had another halt during a recording last night (2011/11/21) at 6:06pm (time of halt warning in SageTV). Attached is the verbose log. I am using v2.1.8 and I have "RTP Delay" set to 100. Any thoughts or help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Please disable Auto Reset, it makes it harder to see what's going on.

Do you have the HDHR SW installed? It won't work without that. I haven't been able to get the PBDA method to work with the PRIME, but I didn't try that hard either.

Yes. The HDHR software is loaded on the system. A full reboot after turning off PBDA restored service. Just restarting the service did not work. I have not been able to get PBDA working on the Prime in my set up.

Was distressed to find after a two week trip that about 3/4 of the programs intended to record on the Prime didn't.

Not sure where the problem was as there are no errors listed in SageTV System Messages for that time, none. Strange. But nonetheless, the recordings that should be there but aren't (mostly on the 5 major broadcast networks). Looks like it started out alright for a few days and then there is about a week of recordings missing, I know SageTV was otherwise functioning as HD-PVR shows from that time period are there. My guess is the Prime (or SageDCT??) got stuck. Things got better again after about a week. I guess I'll go through the WindowXP event and other logs and see if anything shows up.

Definitely the Prime/CableCard combo is far less stable than the original HDHR was.

Probably deserves a "for me" qualifier.

Yes. For me.

I did find two issues though that may have contributed (though unlikely). One, a switch on my network, not between the Prime and the server, had failed. And my Handbrake process was running even during prime-time (usually I exclude it from doing so) and had mysteriously backed up a huge queue within SJQ.

agreed. i have dct running on xp, weeks at a time now with no issues whatsoever. it definitely helped to ensure it has the proper resources all of the time... whenever the system was somewhat starved, i paid

Yeah, what could have happened was Handbrake was running while multiple shows were trying to record and the system choked. I try to make sure SageDCT has a higher priority than other processes to limit the damage. Guess I must have been doing some testing with SJQ before I left town and forgot to put back the crontab with prime-time out of the cycle.

I have over 250 Halt Detected in Recording messages in Sage referencing my Prime tuners.

I also have several Recording Missed Due to Capture Device Failures.

Is this because my HP Mediasmart does not have enough horsepower to run Sage with Prime?

How did you "ensure it has the proper resources all of the time?" I have never noticed any resource issues, but just wanted to make sure I did not need to do something regarding resources to avoid my once a week-ish issue. Thanks.

since my sage box is linux, i had to basically construct a dedicated xp box for dct... tried several hypervisors (kvm, vmware server, vmware fusion, virtualbox) to avoid the extra iron, but none of the virtual network drivers could seem to handle it for me. so, an old core2 duo is chugging along doing nothing but DCT. not a very exciting way to achieve my goal, eh?

So is it the general consensus that running Sage/SageDCT on the same box should be OK (assuming dedicated Sage box), or is it best to give SageDCT its own box? I would have expected the former to be optimal since it means one less network hop...

ya, i should say so, as long as you have enough horsepower to handle it. on my core2 XP box i see DCT using about 10-20% of the CPU, so i would imagine for most multi-core boxen it wouldn't be too much of an issue even in windoze land. since i don't have that option, my little XP box just takes the stream in and pumps out the .ts files over SMB to my sage server.

You might try a program called CachemanXP. It has a "Sticky Priority" that makes any program always run at the selected Priority. I have 3 or 4 programs that are high CPU usage, that I have set to "Low" or "BelowNormal" all the time. It was free (I think still is). (BTW, I haven't set any to higher than normal)

Yes. Either way the most important thing is to use a quality NIC.

Note that if you watch a show *live* that percentage can increase significantly as now you are reading and writing simultaneously to the same file. Something I noticed recently.

Hmm, SageDCT and the Prime have been chugging along fine for about 3 weeks until this morning, when I started getting these errors:

It was trying to access the Speed HD channel at the time. The subscribed channels were for some reason not coming through until I rebooted the Prime. Could be I encountered the cumulative channel change bug that has been reported by Silicon Dust. (still running the 10.25 firmware here)

Are people here in the habit of power cycling their Prime on occasion to avoid this kind of stuff?
