Hi, you only need to connect one, but can connect more if additonal power required.
Lack of power can be seen by the card not tuning channels.

Strange, it appears to be looking for a CAM. Did you have a CAM fitted with any of your previous cards?

My Sage.properties is different as I use dvbe4sage.

I do not see anything like that in my logs

Previously I did test / use it natively. Just shutdown Sage, installed the card, then tbs drivers. started sage and configured tuners in sage.

Have you tried installing the dvb software that came with the card and tried viewing dvb-s channels?

In the end I connected the PCIe cables that came with the power supply for powering VGA cards, nice.

Never had one, however I'm using the latest drivers from the TBS website which have an initial support to the TBS 6985 (I guess 4 tuners with CAM/CI), so it is possible that the BDA interface exposes the capabilities by mistake.

I understood in the end what the problem was, you have to follow the procedure I described early on if you have two of those installed in the PCIe slots.

Not yet, I'm trying to solve the Yellow icon issue which I think I've identified as an interrupt overload on my system...

Which version of the TBS driver you have currently installed?

I'm using driver 1.0.1.8

Try this one and see how you get on.

Unfortunately the mini CD that came with the card has the latest 1.0.2.3 version.

Again, I think that the CAM is not the real issue, but the system overload.

My best bet is to move away from ACPI and setup my XP to "MPS uniprocessor" mode so that I can spread the IRQ more evenly. AT the moment both the quad tuner, one the ethernet controller along with another 10 devices are on the same IRQ...

Some help please...

My setup seems working now, however I do have some question please...

It appears that there is a setting missing that tells Sage that the cards are DVBS, in fact every time I try to manually tune to a specific channel of a specific tuner (via setup > source menu) the system tries all possible supported networks until finally understand that is DVBS, it does via checking whether the ".frq" file is present or not for instance. When finally gets it, the driver probably reports that a CAM/CI is present (when it isn't), also it reports a missing plugin setup in the registry...

Does anyone using this card have noticed this?

thanks
Eddy

Is anyone using the TBS 6984 natively?

If anyone is successfully using the TBS 6984 natively with SageTV I'll be interested to share the experience with you please. I'm having hard time with this and both the WAF & KAF are sub-zero at the moment...

If willing to help, please send me a PM with your email address and I'll be in contact with you shortly.

Thanks
Eddy

If it really not working, why not try it with dvbe4sage. Works very well for me.

The network encoder option is the last resort for me. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but with a network encoder you have very slow channels change, possibly you get back the only reason why I upgraded to v7, "the pause" as we are watching lots of live TV and the pause on the same channel is really annoying for us.

I recall you posted about your splendid results in native mode and how you were pleased of your purchase, can I ask why you have switched to network encoder?

The thing is I know exactly what Sage is doing to make it wrong and I'm convinced I'm very close to the solution. The tuner card per say is working properly and when is recording is doing it perfectly. I just need help to understand where my setup is wrong and I think I can get this information from the log and the properties file, but must be from someone that is using the card natively.

Thanks
Eddy

Hi, the reason I switched away from non native mode is that I use it for subscription based channels and using the card natively means I cannot do this, hence my change.
Channel changes are really quick for me , not much different than natively but, yes you do get the pause between programs when a new one starts which I do agree is annoying. It only lasts a couple of seconds and we have got used to it.

Apparently in the current drivers there is already support for the new TBS 6985 which should have the CAM/CI via daughter card, the BDA drivers already exports that and SageTV is trying to use it...

Code:

Do you recall, whilst using the card in native mode, of the following behavior:

- Restart the server (important step).
- Start to record a channel
- Start to record a second channel

After about 1 minute, you've got a yellow icon warning saying that there was a capture problem on the first channel? Did you ever get that?

If didn't happen, then I have the hope that something is wrong with my setup. Are you still using the old TBS drivers you mentioned early in this thread? If so I'll PM you my email address, so that you can please send me a copy if you still have it for me to try.

Which version of Java are you currently using?

Thanks
Eddy

I'm using java version 6 update 31. Version 7 is full of security issues.

I can't say that I ever experienced that issue.

Have replied to your pm, I'm using the driver version I have put on the website for you to download.

It does appear that the cam issue is to do with the new card and sage not recognising that there is no cam, so I believe that the old drivers should help you with this issue.

Yes, the old driver should help with the CAM issue, but I believe is just a red herring, the real weird issue is in the log below. Basically every time sage starts a recording it tries with the first available tuner, and the algorithm it uses is to go through all the current available tuners looking for "Filter medium" match, by doing this it probably make a call to the drivers that cause the other recording tuners to stop producing data. When it find the match it keep the filter medium reference in memory until all the tuners are being used at least once, after that it never fails anymore; so basically what I have to do every time I restart the server, is to run 8 fake recordings wait 1 minute to let it fail, cancel all the fake recordings and from then on I can record 1 up to 8 channels simultaneously and it will work perfectly as the search mechanism is not performed anymore.

After trying the old driver will see how it goes.

In the meantime, I'm curious about your "dvbe4sage" setup. You're saying that the channel change is quick (2-4 seconds?), but that you get "the pause" between programs on the same channel, is that because you have the "seeker/fast_mux_switch" set to false? Or maybe because you're using a smartcard in your setup? In theory, when sage change program on the same channel it does this via the new "fast_mux_switch" mechanism to keep the same tuner and therefore avoid the "pause", so I would expect "dvb4sage" to be clever and not re-tune the same channel but keep streaming, I read some documentation and looks like it does it...

Try the old driver, it may be again related to the version you are using.

The pause is caused by the recorder filename change as far as I'm aware.

Let me know how you get on with the old driver.

I would prefer to use if natively if sage supported plugins for encrypted channels.

Sure, today is not possible as I've got important recordings (X-factor, etc, etc.), my wife is going to kill me...you know what I mean...

Regarding "smartcard" and assuming you're using the combo OSCAM server + ACAMD client, here is the thing. AFAIK your should be able to use CAM/CI modules with sage natively, also the message in the log about "not plugin" setup in the registry "frey/common", it means that you need to specify the ACAMD.dll in the registry which Sage will load at startup along with the DirectShow filter "MDAPIFIlter.ax" you need to register in the system (provided with the ACAMD package). So every time Sage need to make a DirectShow filter for an encrypted stream it connects the "MDAPIFIlter.ax" in the graph and it will use the ACAMD.dll interface to talk to the OSCAM server. Make sense?

dvbe4sage

I have the line in sage.properties

seeker/fast_mux_switch=true

and for the DVBe4sage encoders

mmc/encoders/1111/fast_network_encoder_switch=false.

On encrypted channels channel change is about 3 seconds, on FTA channels about 2 seconds.

I think you can safely change this to "true", this setting is more related to slow external network encoders like HD-HOME RUN for instance, which must also setup a wait value of about 10 seconds as well.

Will give it a try.

Have you tried removing the registry entry and restarting your server/sage:
registery 'SOFTWARE\Frey Technologies\Common\TunerPlugin'

This causes it to stop with no signal, even worse. Also does the same with my other tuners.

Well, we support Jahmene Douglas he's from Swindon

DigiGuide + Birtles + my post-processor filter = UK.xml lineup
XMLTV + mc2xml = IT.xml lineup
XMLTV + mc2xml = IT_FR_GE.xml lineup

The three lineups are called within "XMLTV Importer" which in turn generates three EPG exported to Sage with nicely 1:1 ordered channels.
