Don't be too excited, it's barely functional. The STV is nothing more than a testbed for the Java code I've been working on.

That's way cool. Simple but efficient design.

Tom, I am willing to beta test your navix plugin whenever you have something worthy of testing.

Thanks for the offer, I'll let you know when I have something. I have been in contact with one of the Navi-X developers who is helping me understand how things work. I'm making progress but I still can't get it to actually play anything yet

One thing I'm noticing is that some video (I can't tell how much) is playable by Sage, but it can't be streamed (meaning it must be fully downloaded before playback can begin.) This isn't ideal for video files that are 1+ GB in size.

If I try Phoenix, will I have to revert back to stock sage to use the Navi-X plugin? Or are plugins specific to the STV?

Right now my testbed STV uses a completely different (new) menu so integrating it into Phoenix will be trivial.

Assuming I get this going I'm hoping one or both of the following will happen:

- Somebody with good UI skills will write a real UI.
- It gets turned into a Phoenix "VFS". If I understand the concept correctly this means it will integrate into all of the existing Phoenix views.

Now I have to do my best at trying to be patient. This is a skill I would love to master but I am told my Type-A personality makes it near impossible.

Thanks for the info.

And just to keep you updated..... I hit another snag:

After some clarifications from one of the Navi-X developers (who has been very helpful, thanks Curt) I found out that to get this to work I'll have to get their "NIPL interpreter" working on Sage. The current interpreter is written in Python (which I'm only marginally fluent in) so I'll have to find a way to run Python in a Java environment or port the interpreter to native Java.

The good news is that this means I'll have to learn some new tricks and that interests me

Thanks for your hard work on this Tom! Having Navi-X in Sage will undoubtedly be awesome.

Any of those little tricks coming out of your sleeves yet? Or, are you trying to learn Python? That could be interesting.

Slugger is trying to teach me some new tricks, but I'm an old dog and it takes time. I'm working on getting the podcasts to play because that's something I do understand.

Slugger, what an appropriate name. Maybe he will help you hit a HOME RUN with this plugin!

I just had a big breakthrough. I successfully used the python "processor" scripts used by XBMC from within SageTV. Lots of testing and debugging to do but I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to get this working at all, and that would have been a show-stopper.

Ha! You just figured out how to get the hard part of Navi-X working then! Great job! The rest should be figuring out minor parsings and coding compared to the meat and potatoes of our app! Great job again!

Well, I'm not out of the woods yet.

First, my code is not reliable and doesn't handle all of the various possibilities.

Second, I'm finding various formats and protocols that Sage does not support (I just ran into a bunch of videos that use rtmp: and that's not supported within Sage.)

Third, I need to understand why some video can't be played progressively, when it theory Sage should handle them.

turner3d and SharkHunter have been very helpful

Ouch! Sorry to hear rtmp won't work cause alot of content in the "Site Scrapers" section uses rtmp... at least anything coming directly from a major network like NBC, ABC, CBS, etc.

Movie sites would be no issue except Crackle (rtmpe://)

At least half if not 70% of the content in Site Scrapers though is rtmp....

At least users aren't that rtmp saavy so most user-contributed content should work fine... it'll give you more than enough new content everyday though that you won't watch all of it... even if you wanted to or had the time to.

Glad to hear Turner and SharkHunter were a big help to you...

Just a thought but what's the likelyhood you can install the libraries for rtmpdump into a module usable by SageTV?? SharkHunter uses rtmpdump to get around the rtmp issue via Navi-X for PS3 Media Server + Channel Plugin... cause I know rtmp support would bring in alot of content directly from network sites which is totally legit. Thanks Tom.
