BETA = Bugs Exist Throughout Application

Hopefully there aren't too many more.

I fully realize and expect to find bugs in beta software. I was just surprised that no one else saw the same thing as me. Glad you found it and will be fixing it in the next release. Keep up the great work!

A little preview of what's coming next, feedback welcome.

I'm working on an automated way to "MultiUserfy" most plugins. Initially this will be done manually through an option in the Configuration dialog. The manual process will have to be invoked each time the UI is reloaded.

Once I get that working reliably I'll try to add an option to make the "MultiUserfication" happen automatically. No promises on this because I'm not sure of what unforseen side effects it may cause.

I've done some initial testing using TVExplorer as a guinea pig and I think it is working well I want to do more testing before I post any beta builds.

I'm fairly confident that the MultiUserfication process will work for most Plugins. Please let me know what plugins you are using so I can do some specific testing. Fore sure I'll test it on: Comskip Playback, TVExplorer, and Diamond since they are all quite popular. I'm not sure about testing for SMM because I'm not so keen on installing the dependencies.

I am back to not seeing all the photos in my collection. Haven't made any changes, but it is where I was last week. All of the users are set to "Show Newly Imported Videos". Not a big deal, but thought you might want to know.

More importantly, here are the plugins I am currently using:
UI Mods:
Comskip Playback
Hide Exit on Main Menu
IMDB Search
InfoPopup STVi
PlayOn for SageTV

General:
Commercial Detector
Jetty Web Server
SageTV Mobile Web Interface
SageTV Web Interface

I don't think any of these would need to be "MultiUserfied". What would be nice is a pop-up when the UI first loads prompting a log-in (with a cancel option).

So they showed up after installing the last update and now they are gone again? What did you do between the time they appeared and the time they disappeared? (Added any users? Deleted any users? Changed any user info? Performed any of the database maintenance functions?, etc)

Yes, they were definitely there right after the last update. I then went back and added the 2 users I had previously lost. I can't remember if I rechecked it again after that or not. If I disable the plugin they are there until I enable it again. But that is the only problem I am having and it is not a high priority for me.

Version 0.12

Version 0.12 just uploaded to the repository. Changes:

- Added ability to manually modify other plugins so they are compatible with the Multi-User plugin. (In the Configuration dialog.) You must run this manually each time the user interface is reloaded.

- Added ability to delete for multiple users. Note that files will always be deleted for the primary and secondary users.

- Changed behavior so Archive and Don't Like function in the same way as Watched.

- Fixed bug that caused user settings to get reset after editing password or ShowImports setting. (I think this will also fix thomaszoo's problem of photos disappearing.)

It looks like it took care of the problem . I had to scan imported media for each user separately for the new photos to show up, but they do all appear now.

Thanks again.

I'm seeing a few issues.
  1. DVD playback still doesn't appear to remember where I left off. Steps to reproduce, play a DVD movie that is saved to the HD, fast forward for a little bit, stop movie, play movie again, movie will start at the beginning.
  2. I'm unable to create a new favorite. I get an error stating unable to create favorite.
  3. Folder list under videos shows blank, even after scanning new media. Dvd and titles sections still show videos, but I mainly only use folder list.

Attached are my logs.

Thanks

I see the problem with adding a favorite and also with the folder listing. I'll get a fix for that fairly shortly.

I'm still trying to figure out how to remember the DVD playback position, no ETA on that but it's on the "to do" list

jpaddock3000 - Can you stop Sage, replace MultiUserSupport.jar with the attached and try it again? I think this will fix the addFavorite and the folder view problems (and if it doesn't it will give me more debug info) but it will not address the DVD playback position problem.

If it does not work please provide logfiles, the last ones you provided were very useful in diagnosing the problem.

Thanks,

Tom

I can confirm that both are working again. Thanks for the quick turnaround. Just curious, why is saving the state of a DVD any different than a regular file? Doesn't the core handle saving that location and you are just putting the save point in the users table versus the main table?

I don't know if it helps speed things along for an interim fix, but all my DVD movies are set to only playback the main movie. I don't use DVD menus. Hoping that you can put something out that can at least handle main movie only playback.

Thanks for all the hard work!

Glad it worked, I'll update the plugin in the repository tonight.

Saving the playback position in a DVD is different. It uses a different format than other video types and I have not been able to crack the code yet. I made a change that I thought would work but obviously it didn't so I need to investigate some more.

Update Available

I just posted an update to the General plugin that incorporates these two fixes.

tmiranda, is there ever going to be a way to set the default user on an extender and or have the base user have shows hidden from it?

What I'd like is when my son sits down at any extender in the house that he not see my Archer or Sons of Anarchy recordings without my having to make him log in/switch over to being a specific user.

Is there a way to accomplish that now?

thanks

The easiest way to do this is to make sure when you are finished with the extender you log out and log your son in. It will remember the last logged in user as long as you have the config options setup that way.

Are you looking for some type of timer so that if you just walk away from the extender for x minutes it automatically switches users back to some default user?

A timer would be an alternative that might work.

What I think of as the real answer is that the "no user" user has a profile that could be manipulated.

In other words if no one logs in as a user what "account" is used, I assume, none and what I'd like and this probably requires Sage to do a solution as opposed to a plugin author, is that this default user does have a profile that I as sys admin can control.

Thanks
