I even felt pressured to switch.

Meet Sugar. She's my 25 pound Maine Coone; she beats the crap out of my cocker spaniel on a regular basis.

So it is not just me. There are a lot of Cat avatars on this forum.

In the dog cat argument I am on the dog side. I grew up with dogs but my wife wanted a cat after we go married. I have lived with these creatures in my house for about 15 years now and can plainly state dogs are better.

A cat is like a roommate you advertised for in the newspaper. You may live together and hang out occasionally but they don't really have anything invested in the relationship. Dogs are real friends.

Male Cats are better. Now my primary cats are females but because we seem to be crossroad central for stray kittens I have lived with quite a few over the years. I have managed to place them all at some point with a good home but I have always liked the males better.

I can't wait for the last one to die so I can get a dog. I’d get one now but you know how cats deal with change.

The good thing about a cat is you can throw out some extra food, water and litter and go on a two week vacation. A dog can't handle a long weekend. Of course you could take the dog on the vacation a cat can’t even handle the car ride to the vet.

I wonder how your wife might deal with change. She may be waiting for you to pass so she can get more cats.

I think you got the order mixed up there.

had a cat since my college days, and my wife added three more. However, lately i've grown tired of wiping up the hairball vomit and pee stains. The daughter brought home a new kitten several years ago and it has since caused no end of territorial warfare damage to pillows, and carpets, any clothes laying on the floor. we only have two now.

never had a dog, but am seriously considering it...

BTW: If there isn't really a big wad of hair in the cat yak & they seem to be doing this nearly every day, the cat should go to the vet. Our cat turned out to have a thyroid problem, which is a common ailment of older cats.

The dark-haired one in my avatar will be 17 this spring.

We have 4 cats, 3 dogs and 3 kids (1 turned 14 yesterday). About a year ago we had 6 cats. The problem around here is that coyotes and owls keep killing any cat that gets out at night from May through October. Unfortunately we've lost 6 very beloved cats over the last 2 years. In this particular area dogs are certainly safer. We seem to have an extremely difficult time convincing our cats to stay inside.

Now if only we could get the teenager to stay outside at night.

My wife wanted to keep the cats inside because they live longer and don't get fleas. We kept the first two that way for about 5 years when we finally got a stray that would not stay inside. He was going outside regardless and would have let me kill him otherwise. She finally started letting them all out because otherwise I was going to injure him while he made his run for it. At this point the evil female cats personality changed dramatically. She finlly stopped picking on the other one and life was better for everyone.

Some cats just need to go out. The other cat is a true indoor cat. I can leave the garage open all day and she could not care less. Might venture out twice a year. Now we eventuality lost the one that had to be outside all the time but he was happy at least.

Still, Dogs rule!

I thought about that question while I was writing it, but didn't bother to clarify it. In this case it is the oldest kid, but the oldest dog is just a few months behind.
