Multible Audio / Subtitles - Dealbreaker

I am in a special situation, being Danish working only with British and Living in Italy with Italian speakning kids.
I NEED the option of easy switch-able audio tracks in HD MKV and support for subtitles by .sub / .srt / .text

I have tried SageTV v6.6 and there is just no option to change the audio even though SageTV sees all the traks?

I have tried to search this forum and can not find / confirm that this will be supported in V7.

I am ready to buy 3-4 licenses of this because so far I have greates succes with the TV-server / client on this software, but NO joy with the audio problem.

(have seen a post about pausing the movie and switch in Halii but this is NO option for wife and kids)

Thanks in Advance
Robert

For playback with SageTV/SageTVClient on a Windows PC, we will have audio track selection for MKV files and support text based subs for MKVs in V7. External text subtitle files should already work for MKVs (as well as in V6.6); but the ones with embedded subtitles are still a work in progress. Audio track selection for MKVs should also work in V7 already.

Tanks Narflex.

I haven't tried the V7 because it is Beta :-)

I will wait "coiled like a spring" for the final release and NEED you to address the embedded Sub-issue ...PLEASE :-)

I will then for sure buy this lovely software and finally put an end to my wife's frustration about my HTPC project...

Is there a MCE remote button signed for "next audio track" and "next subtitle" ??

I have sneak peaked on Youtube on the interface and it looks like you are getting close to XBMC and Mediaportal in the eye candy department as well... not that it matters the most..

Wow. I really expected embedded subtitles to be supported in V7. As long as I'm wishing, I hope the eventual support for embedded tracks will follow the "forced" and/or "default" flags for both audio and subtitles. In the mean time, I'll continue ripping subtitles into my MKVs with the hope that they'll be fully supported in SageTV at some point.

If this is really a deal-breaker for you, then wouldn't it make sense to try it out now, while still in Beta, to make sure it's going to meet your needs? Once the release is finalized, it will be too late for them to fix any issues you encounter.

Greg I see your point but as far as I know the trial period is the same regardless of Beta or final = 21 days (which is really too short anyway)
And honestly I just don't fanzy spending a lot of time removing and reinstall with a half finished version.
But when it is ready for final release I will try it out and if it do half of what I have allready seen on the WWW AND support multible MVK audio / Subs THEN I will go for it.

If the BETA had been without expire date with a "clock to stop" when final release arrived I had gone for it long time ago :-)

Please correct me if I am wrong?

Thanks for your input anyway

Robert

Guys, just curious if support for vobsub subtitles embedded into MKV files has made it into the base SageTV for Windows version 7 code or is it still considered a work in progress?

Thanks,

Tim

Robert_it,
I am running V7 beta in a VM (I'm using Oracle's Virtual Box - freeware), just playin with V7 to see if it does what I need, my big deal is CC and subtitles, so far it is working great, not quite ready to pull the trigger yet.

If I want to play longer I will delete this VM, clone a new one from my golden virtual image (vdi), install V7 again, you can keep this up forever if you want. You can test any beta you want this way.

PS You need a machine with enough resources to run a VM - I run mine with 20GB storage, 1GB Mem using 1 of my 4 cpu's. It doesn't take but a few minutes to do each step, assuming you have a relatively fast machine to try it on. Also helps to have an extra tuner, I stole one of my HDHR tuner's from my main system.

For my testing purposes this is enough.

Embedded subtitles are super-simple to extract from an MKV file using MKVToolnix if you need to run them externally for now.
