John,

The new update works perfectly. Thank you for all your hard work.

PS The MULTIFUNCTION plugin is working great too.

If this isn't the right forum, let me know...

is there a trick for getting the comskip detector UI plug in to work on a sagetv client?

It shows its an installed client plug in but now comms are marked or skipped. It is working fine on my extenders and placeshifters. The client is new and is working fine except for this lug in.

thx

the client needs direct access to the comskip files on the server. if you are recording to F:\SageTVfiles on the server (for example the server is named SERVER), you need to share the F:\ root directory as F and then map \\SERVER\F as F on the client computer. That way the client can get the comskip file it needs to work.

Or, if you set your server to record to \\SERVER\F\SageTVfiles instead of F:\SageTVfiles, it would also work for new recordings. If you do that, you don't need to map the share drive on the client.

ah, yes. I'll have to map the directory where the comskipped files are located on the server to the client.

Ok, I mapped the server drive where the recordings are stored to the client. Now, SageTV Client is asking a question:
  • copy media from the server share
  • copy media to the server share
  • play media from the server share
  • close - do nothing at this time

How should I respond?

just close. That is a popup whenever a new drive is added (like plugging in a thumbdrive).

still can't get CS to work on the client. I mapped the directory on the server where the .mpg, .edl, and .txt files are located. It is drive F and I have each of these boxes checked:
  • Share this folder on the network
  • Allow network users to change my files

From Windows explorer on my client, I see the networked drive (F\\SageTV) mapped as Z on the client. I can get into the directory on the server from the client and see and open any .mpg file.

On the client, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the plug in entitled Comskip Detector UI which also installed comskip playback. However, I see no purple CS symbol and no commercials are marked on recorded shows that I know have been CS'd.

What else do I need to do to get CS working on the client machine (running Win7 64)?

thx

I think if the drive is F on the server it needs to be mapped to F on the client.

Rebuilt system running SageTV 7, DirMon2, SA.
Everything seems to be running fine: commercials are detected and show up in the time line but they are not automatically skipping during playback . I have installed the Comskip Playback plug in (2.0.14).
Am I missing something?

The commercials are dark green.

Can I ask the really dumb question? You did enable comskip, right? For various reasons, I know some people like to have the automatic jump disabled and instead use the left/right arrows to manually jump between the gaps.

That's why I asked the color. Dark Green would mean autoskip is enabled - when it is disabled, they show up blue. So it SHOULD be working - not sure what it wouldn't, unless there is some other plugin interfering with it somehow.

If the SAGETV server is writing using a drive letter on its recording directory, then the Client PC should also map to the recording directory on the SAGETV server using the same drive letter for Comskip to work correctly.

If you're using UNC paths instead for the recording directories in SAGETV then this shouldn't be an issue.

The only other plugin I have running is a Google weather plug-in, so I can't believe that would affect it.
I have noticed that occasionally it will skip the first marked commercial, but then not the rest. Most of the time it does nothing. Is it relevant that the OS and Sage are on a separate physical disk than the recordings?
I guess I could try to revert back to the default STVi and reload the plugins, but I think I've tried that before.

I'm not using a server/client setup. Just one box. OS and Sage on an SSD, recordings on a HDD.

I had this at one time, as well. When you rebuilt, did you happen to copy your properties folder or perhaps even the entire Sage folder over from the previous system? Are you running the latest SageTV (7.1.9) with all the additional STV updates? Also, did you ever go into SageTV Studio and do any editing and overwrite the STV with plugins loaded?
