BTW, I also run a couple of Squeezeboxes for music with Squeezebox Server running on the WHS. Lightsout is on the WHS and the Squeezebox Server (SBS) install has a user developed Lightsout plugin that keeps the WHS awake while music is being consumed and allows it to sleep (S3) otherwise. When I turn a squeezebox on, it sends a magic packet to the SBS and wakes it. I also use iPeng, an brilliant iPhone app for controlling the Squeezeboxes. Even iPeng can be configured to send a magic packet to the SBS to bring it out of S3. Too bad the Sage developers cannot be more responsive to the desires of the Sage community and just implement magic packet wake into the Sage extenders... If they did, I could configure the server to automatically wake only to back-up the client Windows machines and sleep otherwise. SageMC already does a great job in waking to record and my squeezeboxes, as configured work, it's only the Sage Extenders that refuse to play nice! Doug |

There are two methods to wake by lan.
Pattern match Magic packets If you have a delicated network line between the server and a HD100, the Pattern match method may work perfectly. With a lot of motherboards coming with two NIC's this is an option. But if the network has other computers and a router, the server will wake up all the time due to network traffic. In my case the server never sleeps from the network traffic and I have to switch to Magic Packets in order to get it to sleep. So I can either 1) Turn it on when I need it 2) Leave it on 3) or, Use a program on another (24/7) windows computer or a DNS-323 NAS to wake the server when the HD100 comes on line. I am still trying to work this out myself... |

I think if your router is compatible with DD-WRT, there is probably a way to have a script run on the router that would send a magic packet to your server when the extender wakes up.. never tried it myself though. there's not much you CAN'T do with DD-WRT, if you know anyhting about sh scripts...
