I was underwelmed by the iPad announcement, BTW there must not have been any women on the naming committee. Was hoping for a MacBook tablet not an oversized Touch. It's a slick piece of industrial design and I'm sure it will sell well. 3 or 4 years ago I would've been seriously tempted but not today.

BTW, I love my Kindles! Yes, that's plural as I currently own the Kindle 2 and the Kindle DX and gave my original Kindle to my Mom last year. The big advantage that the Kindle and other eInk readers have over the iPad or any non-reflective display is that you can easily read outside. In good weather I spend as much time as I can spare reading outside.

I love my Kindle too!
And one of the best features is the batterylife. The excellent eInk does not suck power as an LCD/LED-screen does.

MrsNethead just got back from a Month in China visiting Family and Friends (they all enjoyed her new iPad, I gave it to her as a Birthday Gift, and she took it in place of a notebook pc, Skype/Yahoo Message/Web worked great for her), last night she tried using it with the Sage Web UI; worked great...until she tried play back

Guess I need to do some file format change

And, of course, just my luck. Less than one week after I placed (and still to have received) my order for a spangally new 64g 3g iPad, this goes and happens

http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/12/m...touch-working/

It's about £319 compared to the £700 of my iPad and I can run the SageTV client or placeShifter on it

I'll buy a beer for the first person who puts up a youtube video of the JooJoo being used as a sageTV client/placeshifter

I've never liked Steve Jobs.

I own one Apple product: An iPad.

I love it.

It fits the way me and my family consume content very well. Could I do a lot of things I do with my iPad on a laptop? Sure, but I have a laptop and I don't. I think there are at least two reasons for that, the form factor and the multi-touch interface of the iPad. I just find it a damn compelling interaction paradigm, but you know, I'm just a dummy...

For parents, I think the most important media consumption aspect of the ipad, is that you get complete freedom from porn. As a parent, it's important for me to be able to just hand this revolutionary device to my kids and just know, because Steve said so, that there is no way they can access porn on this thing... to me, that is truly magical. Kudos to Steve for pulling that off.

You must be doing it doing it wrong.... Maybe you need to turn it sideways, or shake it, or was there a magical word you need to say?? Try it again I mean it's not like Apple would declare "Freedom from Porn" and not mean it, would they??

Well, that's it! It's definitely going back!

However, I'm sure there are ways around it if someone should get desperate.

I guess the main reason for the lack of porn is the lack of flay player

Things like the Archos 7, M-001, aPad, Acorp EM501R and so on... Personally, I think the Archos 7, the Adam from Notion Inc or the Samsung Galaxy Tape are a bit more interesting has they are a bit more powerful.

Do any of the above have a screen close in size to the iPad?

Those were mostly the 5-7 inches ones, which can fit in a pocket. I know some 10 inches ones are planned, but not sure if any have actually been released yet.
