Yup, I did. I watched TV all night until 1:30AM EST without a single stutter in playback or the SageUI after the priority change.

I guess I just have too much going on with that box.
Web server (~6 sites)
Email server (2 domains)
Shoutcast server (2 streams)
Sage server (1 tuner)

I'm pricing out and setting aside 2k for a new server to move the Web/Email/Shoutcast to and will work on getting a new machine for Sage since this one is about 2 years old now. After the two servers are separated, I shouldn't have to play with priority.

The SB Live is alive and kickin!

I should have also stated that I'm using VMR9 and the NVDVD codec...maybe that was the problem, but I was sure I had gotten over that by setting the presentation level to 1 in the registry...either way, the high priority seemed to have fixed it.

well thanks for the comment again
always fun to be insulted (and the comment that was harddrive very old) when just describing a problem that I have experienced
I figure there is nothing wrong with drive since it keep working but it is not quietest
It is probably just mine though

Excuse me, I'm not the one who started calling someone's posts "stupid". If you felt insulted by me questioning the validity of your Maxtor "experience", I apologise, but I would ask you to consider the usefulness of your post, which implied that Maxtor drives were noisy because you had a noisy one. Even if that is not what was intended, that is what came across.

And before anyone says "but Maxtor drives *are* noisy and unreliable, I had a 100 and they were *all* noisy and they *all* broke", try to remember that this is a statistical drop in the ocean compared to the number of drives they actually sell. A run of 100 bad Maxtor drives is indeed very bad luck, but that's all. There are plenty of people out there getting great performance out of them, which is why Maxtor are still in business.

My $0.02:
Seagate baracuda's are pretty much silent and perform well. Stay away from Seagate metalists. IMHO maxtors are crap. Never had a problem with WD. I pretty much exclusively use seagate baracuda's for IDE and seagate cheetah for SCSI. As for SB Live, I once had a SB Live in a VIA mobo and the only way I could get it to not lockup while booting was to overclock the PCI bus.

Maybe we should ask Consumer Reports what they think about hard drives?

CR would probably give them all low ratings, since they can't be used by themselves and must be installed in a computer instead. In fact, that is probably why they haven't reviewed them yet -- they've all failed when plugged into the wall socket.

Back on topic -- KJake, I noticed you said you're using the NVDVD codec. There is a known problem when using this codec for video and audio. FF/RW when using both will often cause Sage to crash. Try changing your audio codec to something else to see if that helps. I was having the same crashes until I read someone else's post about this. Since I made the change, Sage hasn't crashed once.

I realize that you said changing the Sage priority seems to have fixed the problem, which is interesting in itself, but I'd still recommend making the above change if you want to be on the safe side.
