Audio Issues
Hi All,
I've bought and installed SageTV on an XP Box and am having some audio issues during playback. This is what I know:
Here are some details on my system:
Any thoughts on what I should tweak? Thanks, Lynn |

Same
I've had the same problem. Taking another look at Sage lately.
Using the 1600HVR. Live is fine but playback of recorded shows has the music/soundtrack way louder than the dialog. I'm have the server output to the TV via HDMI on my video card and just OTA channels into the 1600. I've changed some audio settings after the fact so I'm going to test different audio settings for recorded shows, since it didn't make a difference. AC3filter was on and I think default sage. |

I'd love to know if you figure this out. These problems make Sage a no-go for me. I'm sure they're solvable. I just don't know how.

This seems to be just the HD channels.
I've tried this card: http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_I...k0W&templete=2 and I've tried another nVidia card with just the audio output channels. (Sigmatel driver). No combination of codecs seems to work. Instead of HDMI output to the TV, I'm going to use straight PC input VGA on the TV just to test. |

Have you gone into your sound settings on the PC and set the speakers as 2 channel? Maybe the HDMI is outputting incorrectly. Also, go into the sageTV folder (C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV) and open up ac3filter.exe and set that to 2 channel. That may be your problem. AC3 filter is probably outputting the HD channels as 5.1 and since your TV doesn;t have a center channel, you;ve got no dedicated speaker for "voice" so it sounds muffled/low.

Thanks
I didn't know about that .EXE !
This worked. I switched it to 2-Channel stereo and adjusted the gains..works great. Ya ya, I'm buying a new 5.1 receiver as soon as I run the wires. WinTV 7 worked fine so I figured it had to be in Sage somewhere. Thanks a bunch. Smart thinking. |

Clift,
Worked for me as well. Thanks for the info! Also, I check out your HDMI over ethernet article. Great job on that one! Lynn |

Just wanted to post another "thanks" here. I was having similar issues, and ac3config.exe took care of it. I changed the output format from 'AS IS (no change)' to '2/0 - stereo', and I can finally hear dialog on DVDs. Tweaking some of the gains helped, too.
