ok

Ok that does make sense to me now! Take the original sagetv3.xml open it import the plug in and rename the new version back to sagetv3.xml so it is used by MC. I will give that a try!

FYI....PlayOn has yet another version update. The release history says it fixed a/v sync issues for Netflix. I updated and watched several Netflix titles and lots of MTV and Hulu and they all worked great.

Just wanted to share in case anyone else was thinking of updating....it works for me....YMMV.

Don't know if this is where I should post this, but ever since I loaded this up I've been having this issue so I know for sure it is related to it. I have attached images to show what is going on. The first pic show my opening screen. As you can see I use sagemc.
Then I click on My Menu to show the screen for Online Services. All is fine.
When I click on Online Services it throws me to a mix of standard Sagetv Screen with my main screen menu options. I can't do anything at this point. If I click on my menu again it will bring up my online services option but it won't work.
I then need to do what the third screen shows which is to press esc and fallback to standard sagetv. This will then show me the online services menu which I can choose the channels.
When i get out of this, I get the sagetv standard screen with the option to return to my sagemc menu xml. That then fails and gives me the final img in which i choose to load alternate menu and I leave the choice of sagemc_menu.xml press ok and all is back to normal.

If anyone has any ideas or tell me what i'm doing wrong. I've followed the procedure(as far as i know) where i default back to sage standard, load the stv and reload my sagemc xml.

Wife is not going to like this need help badly.

The problem you're having is this. The SageT3V.xml you chose to use also has the dynamic menu import in it. This will mess up when using SageMC. So....
1) Load SageTV with the current SageTV3.xml you have.
2) Go to Detailed Setup-Advanced-Manage plugins (STVI)
3) Remove ALL the plugins. After you're done there should not be one plugin listed.
4) Now import the UpNppodcast plugin. (STVI) And only that one.
5) Now switch over to using SageMC.

When using the upnppodcast plugin for Playon make sure when you set up to use SageTV3.xml with SageMC that you ONLY HAVE the ONE plugin imported into SageTV3.xml.

I have this working great with my SageTv on a quad core WHS PC and Playon on my wife's I7.

My problem is that I cannot get this to work with Playon on the WHS PC. I would really like to get Playon off my wifes PC and utilize the quad core WHS PC by running everything on it.

With Playon on the WHS PC I can get menus and the xml file populates properly. When I paste the mpg url in IE8 it looks like it is trying to download and connect, but eventually times out and errors. I have two motherboard Ethernet ports, but I don't see that being the problem. When I select something to watch on an extender it just tries to download and eventually times out with a timed out read error.

I have seen the mpg file on my WHS hard drive, but it stays at zero bytes. I have seen it also start to increase in size and then it times out before playing on my extenders.

I put IE8 in compatibility mode for everything, I followed Gerry's advice on changing the IE8 settings from a few pages back.

When I ran the depends dll checker it showed me missing ieshims.dll and wer.dll and one other I can't remember now. I found those dlls and placed them in windows/system32 folder and tried regsvr32 to register them, but it errors out saying something about a libraby not found. Googling that shows mostly the fix is to run regsvr32, but that doesn't work.

Anybody have some tips? Does anyone have Playon running on their WHS? If so, what did you need to do to get this to work?
Thanks

I have it working on my WHS server. At least the playon server portion - I haven't tried to playback on the WHS. I use a HD-100 for that purpose and everything works just fine.

You do have to install Java on the WHS for it to work. My WHS install was less than a week old and did not have Java yet. But the errors I got when trying to play back material specifically mentioned Java something blah, blah, blah. Enough for me to guess that Java wasn't installed.

I never had dll issues, nor did I move dlls from another OS to make this all work. I should also mention that I am using IE8 without any special tweaks. I did turn off the WHS IE security measures mentioned in the How To.

I am playing back on extenders 200's

I have the latest Java installed and did not think Sage would even work without it. I checked and there are no Java updates. Can you elaborate on the type of Java errors you were getting? Was it a java read timeout error because that is what I am getting.

Are you getting playback on your extender through Sage, or in standalone mode?

I did the install a couple of days ago on my Quad core WHS machine. I am playing back on an HD200 and everything is working perfectly.

Initially, things did not work. However, I was behind on quite a few windows updates. Once I ran all of them and restarted, everything started working.

Honestly I don't remember what the Java error was. But it very well may have been a time out error. What ever it was, it stirred something in my memory that Java wasn't installed by default on WHS. So I went to the Java site and confirmed that it wasn't installed. I simply installed the latest version and that seemed to work.

Update:

I can run playon on my WHS PC and use the extenders in standalone mode. I then tried to use my extenders through Sage and had success with short hulu clips of 2-3 minutes.

If I try a longer clip through the extender in the Sage sever mode it will try to download for about 60-90 seconds and then give me an error of:
java.net.socket timeout exception: read timed out

My Sage server WHS PC is a quad Q9400 with 4GB of RAM and my DSL is a 7Mbps down and 896 up. When I run the test in Playon I get green and max in the results.

Is it Java that is timing out or does Sage have some setting that times out?

I also have watched the CPU in task manager while this was running and it does not max my system out. I tried changing playon settings to low and medium with the same results.

Any ideas?

Guess to play ball with this wonderful new feature I have to "upgrade" to IE7. The latest playon patch errors out saying it's required.

Might happen next weekend when I get a break in 'important' recordings.

Multiple Streams

EP,

I see where earlier in this thread you answered some questions regarding feeding mutiple streams, so I gave that a try. I opened up one on an extender and then tried another on a computer (to verify I had the bandwidth) - No problem. Then I had a stream on an extender and on my PS3 (to verify that my computer can handle multiple streams with Playon) - no problem though my CPU was at 90%. I only had problems when I tried playing on 2 extenders at once. The streams opened but once the second got started, both were badly studdering. Any suggestions as to the problem?

Wow.. this is the best thing to happen to SageTV since the HD extender IMO.

I'm interested in watching TV shows via Netflix watch-it now. I added season 1 for instance of 30 rock. But it doesn't show up in my Movies->Netflix Instant play list. I suppose its because its a TV show and not a movie?

Also, would there be a way for SageTV to remember where you were in a show so you don't have to fast forward?

It does not show up because it is episodic. You will need to modify the custom feeds. See this post:

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...&postcount=155

The only problem is that all episodic shows will show up mixed together. Cannot be helped at this point.

Got NetFlix?

Ladies and Gents,

I'm in the process of creating a new Online Browser and want to make sure it works with NetFlix. Unfortunately I do not have a NetFlix account so I'm looking for people who use NetFlix and are willing to help me do some testing. If you are interested, please PM me. I'm probably a week away from "beta", but that all depends on what's happening on the home front.

Thanks in advance,

Tom
