When I used the LrnHelper utility, I shut off the SageTV application and service. Then transmit a signal to LrnHelper about 2 inches away from the USB-UIRT. Then I transmit the code. For example, I learn the digit "1". Then I transmit the "1" three times to the cable box to make sure it responds. Then I copy that line into my IR file. I repeat the process with the other 9 digits. I then configure SageTV with the IR file. As mentioned before, the 'repeatcount' needs tweaking. Usually I use a 'repeatcount' value of 10.

The Hauppauge HD-PVR blaster emitter uses an unusual 4 conductor 2.5mm plug.
There is no documentation that I can find on the wiring of the HD-PVR emitter. I used a meter with a diode setting, which shows the 1.6V forward drop of the LED when connected on the correct pins in right polarity.

( Tip-Ring1-Ring2-Sleeve)

After testing all the combinations with a meter, I learned that the HD-PVR blaster is wired with the Anode (+) to the Tip, and the Cathode (-) to Ring2, (Not the sleeve). Why they chose a 4 conductor plug for a 2 conductor application is a mystery.

I made my own adapter from the 3.5mm jack (Tip is +/Anode, Sleeve is -/Cathode) on the USB-UIRT to a stereo 2.5mm jack. When plugging the HD-PVR emitter into a 2.5mm stereo jack, the second ring does not make good contact to the sleeve. I've got it working by partially inserting the plug until I can find a 4 conductor 2.5mm jack.

I cut off the original 4-pin connector and installed a standard 1/8th inch standard stereo connector which works with the USB-UIRT.

Sorry guys but I am still having issues with this. To avoid clouding the issue I will limit this to the issue of SageTv not sending the correct codes through the USB-UIRT although it has (supposedly?) correctly learned the codes directly from the DN remote.

USB-UIRT is working as confirmed by using LRNHELPER, which I guess can only learn one button press at a time which seems fine to just use for copying and pasting.

Now the question is, to which file do I copy and paste the codes to? Whilst setting up the tuning options under Sagetv I had created a new one called "Dishnetwork322", so now i have that one and the Motorola something or the other under the choices. I tried finding any sort of file with "Dish" in it, then looked for "ir" files but it is not entirely obvious which file, if any, SageTV is using to store the codes I have already taught it.

I am not to picky about the file, or having the Dish option hanging around as I see not option to delete it. So the questions are:

1. To which file do I copy and paste the numeric button presses?
2. I am assuming that I can also add the "Select" button so that I can use that as a prefix for channel changes to wake up the DN box once it goes into hibernation at 3 am? [I have briefly read about STB wakeup and may give that a try later on"]
3. What are the correct choices under SageTV to select so that it picks up the ir codes from the file that I will copy and paste?

As usual, your assistance is greatly appreciate

You put the code in your IR file, then when setting up the tuner, choose the IR file. Here's an example of an old Dish Network IR file. It was located at c:\program files\SageTV\Common\RemoteCodes\USB-UIRT Transceiver\jvc301.ir.

That is the problem Dave and maybe i am being thick but:

"Now the question is, to which file do I copy and paste the codes to? I looked through the whole computer system and I cannot find any ir files that have been recently modified. The only option that I have for which I can remotely think that there is an ir file is the Motorola. I guess I can paste the codes into that one but I would like to find the one that corresponds to the DN entry I created. Or is Sage keeping those settings internally and no file is created, something I doubt?

You can create a text file with an IR extension.

My IR file is located C:\Program files\SageTV\Common\RemoteCodes\USB-UIRT Transceiver\MotorolaDCT6208--2005.ir

I am attaching the SageTV configuration screen and my MotorolaDCT6208--2005.ir file as an example IR file.

Islander, are you running Vista or Windows 7 with UAC turned on (default)? If so, the files are probably stored in the VirtualStore instead, which I believe is located in "C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\SageTV\Common\RemoteCodes\USB-UIRT Transceiver\"

Finally working, thanks for all the help.

The issues were several:

- Fuzzy got it right with the file locations. I turned UAC off which required redoing the options as I had not saved the right file but at least now wiz is sitting in the right folder. This also is allowing me to check for updates within the system which is another plus.

- Dave and the others got it right in regards to the repeat count, 10 seems to do it. I set the minimum delay to 100 and that also seems to work well.

- Once the ir file was sitting in the right folder then it was a matter of using LR to learn the codes which I then copied and pasted to the ir file. I guess one of these days I will backup the file and try learning one of the codes from within Sage and see if that was working all along but the issues I was having were related to the above.

Next project: fixing the repeat issue with the remote so I can use the usbuirt with the remote and finally hide the Haup out of view. Thanks again!

Islander,

I jus tnoticed this thread and can feel your pain. I went through a similiar expereince when I installed my USB-UIRT the first time and then again when I changed from Comcast to Verizon service (I forgot about LMHelper).

Make sure you backup your IR files so you don't have to go through that experience again.

I found that a repeat count of 2 worked fine (I think the default is 4)

Usb-uirt Transmitter port problem

I have been looking for a long time for someone with knowledge about the USB-UIRT transmitter.
Reading through these posts I think I have found the mother load

My Problem:
I add a new source (A Motorola STB), the source is recognized and the sound and picture come up. I then go the control of the source on the next window and pick the USB-Uirt and I get the error: 'Failed setting the infrared port!'

I had previously used this transmitter and it worked fine on a different source. Some how it seems to think it can not work on this new source. (the old sourse has been deleted)

I have tried the 'uurename' program and set it to #2 and then #3 with no help. the #1 is not an option.

I am using Windows7 64 bit and Sagetv 6.6 and have the latest USB-uirt drivers.

Any help would be appreciated

Do you have any other programs running that use the USB-UIRT? There are still some issues with it being shared. I know Girder sometimes doesn't like to play nice and give it up when it is done with it.
