Unfortunately, due to the tremendous popularity of the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR products we have sold out of them at http://www.pcalchemy.com. We currently have almost 200 cards on backorder with Hauppauge, hopefully we'll get them soon. Just a heads up, when we do get them the following will be our prices:

WinTV-PVR-250 MCE (OEM) $99
WinTV-PVR-250 (whitebox retail*) $119
WinTV-PVR-350 (whitebox retail*) $164
MediaMVP $89 (retail)

* The whitebox retail cards are exactly the same spec as what you'd buy at a retail outlet minus the pretty box, basically the package includes the card, a Hauppauge remote, and the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-250/350 software CD-ROM.

BTW, we have just become an authorized SageTV reseller, no SageTV products on the site yet, but we will be offering it at a discount and also bundled with the various WinTV-PVR cards and a Streamzap remote.

We are very aggressive with our prices, but what makes us really different is our customer service, we are HTPC experts and enthusiasts and can provide help on hardware and software that no typical store front or on-line retailer can.

I see you listed both of these but when I went to your website, there is only a retail PVR 250 MCE and an OEM PVR 250 MCE

are these the same product yet one has a box and the other comes in a white box?????????

Or is this just a misprint??????

Cause I was just wondering what the benefit of buying one over the other is since they are both MCE Pvr 250s??????

Robert

And how well supported is the Media Center remote for SageTV?

would I need girder or someother program or is it pretty much set and ready to go with SageTV?

These are both exactly the same card, the difference is that one is an OEM card and comes with no software or drivers (they can be downloaded however) and the 2 year limited warranty is provided by pcalchemy.com. The retail card comes in a factory sealed box with Hauppauge's WinTV-PVR-250/350 Software CD and includes Hauppauge's 2 year limited warranty.

If you don't need the WinTV application because you are using SageTV I'd suggest getting the OEM card and saving $16, or buy our SageTV / PVR250MCE Bundle and save even more.

I have no experience using the Philips MCE remote with SageTV, you might wish to post that question to another thread.

We do sell the Streamzap PC Remote, it works quite well with SageTV.

A CD Image of what is included with the retail box is available from SHS (http://www.shspvr.com), so all you would be missing really is the warrenty.

You can also download directly from http://www.pcalchemy.com/downloads.php?parent_id=1.

However the download from both pcalchemy.com and shspvr.com does not caontain everything that is on the CD, I believe the following is left off:

DirectX
DirectXMedia
HTMLhelp
ULead MovieFactory
WinTV Manual
WinTV English Help Files & Language Resources
Misc Utility
Hauppauge Registration
NanoCosmos MPEG Video Editor

As far as the warranty, pcalchemy.com provides basically the same warranty that Hauppauge does on these cards, and we are at least as rsponsive as Hauppauge is.

The $16 dollars is for the the CD, the cost for Hauppauge to package everything up, and for Hauppauge's warranty, each individual will need to decide whether it is worth it or not. Also, it might not be long before Hauppauge does not allow the OEM cards to be sold standalone, they'll need to be bundled with other hardware (like a remote) or software.

Believe it or not, I'd say about 40% of the WinTV-PVR-250MCE sales on pcalchemy.com are for the retail cards.

We sold about 120 Hauppauge cards since Friday, all the WinTV-PVR cards are so hot at the prices we offer them at that it is hard for us to keep them in stock. We buy as many from Hauppauge as they'll sell us, right now we have about 500 of the various PVR cards on back order with Hauppauge.

Oh good, a bidding war. Nothing like competition to benefit the consumers. Now if only people would start stocking that USB version of the card, that would be great. Gentlemen, start your engines!

These are not the “Roslyn” cards. Currently the suppliers are sold out (with a few other items) but hope to have some in early next week. Once avail. it will be listed again.
