Not so much hung up on parity, we just find it to be more efficient then duplicating the entire pool. By the same token we could say that you are hung up on WHS. You don't want to seem to give unRAID a chance because it is based on Linux and uses a parity drive.

I'm not sure how large your WHS is, but i imagine it is a pretty good size. You need 2x the disks to do a complete copy. That is in our opinion a waste of space. Once I get the new drives added to my unRAID server i will have 5TB unformatted storage space. Another drive is being used as the parity drive and another is my cache drive. I would not want to cut that space in half by having to duplicate everything. I would also not want to by 5TB more in disks just to get it all protected. As my server stands now I have the entire 5TB protected from a disk failure. Should one fail i can rebuild the entire system, should two fail then I only loose the data on those two disks.

WHS is more expandable in the sense that more addons are created for it but as a pure media storage server i don't find it to be efficient in its use of space.

That's just my two cents. We may just have to agree to disagree.

The most efficient option isn't always the best solution.

WHS is NOT a "pure media storage server," it's not just a NAS, it's not just a backup app, it's not just a remote access portal. I just don't care that it's not the most efficient solution in the world. I got over the lack of parity on WHS already and it's still worth running.

Wondering if

Has anyone tried one of these on a WHS??

There are several configurations but I think I would need the ST5HPMES. I'm curious if it works like the AMS-T4S unit mentioned earlier in the post.

I'd imagine it would work if you can cable it up but $209 for 4 drive bays is pretty expensive when you can get cases that hold more for much less. I wouldn't want to share 4 drives with 1 port either but that's just me. That Norco case holds 21 drives for $289 although it doesn't include a power supply...
