Wow - now we need to reference Wikpedia to sort out what Sage supports.
Perhaps they could spell it out "CLEARLY", or perhaps that might cost them a little too much business.
Irrespective, The Sage Audio support is clearly lacking. They do a great job with DVD's, but much of the HD content generated and available today won't play on the HD-200.

Wow these complaining threads are really getting me down.

I gotta agree with other posters here and say, its not sages fault that codecs are confusing. I happen to think they did a decent job of spelling out what was supported.

Personally I got burned by not looking closely enough because I ASS-U-MEd that when I saw the words WMV9/VC-1 that it would obviously (to me) support previous WMV versions ...

Either way I'm happy with my extender. If you didn't read closely enough, thats your fault not Sages.

Comet48 is entirely correct. Sage knows that there are variants of WMA that are not supported. Ordinary consumers are very likely to be confused -- as are some more sophisticated consumers -- and it makes sense to clarify this up front.

Expecting "plug and play" consumers to understand that all files ending in ".wma" are not "wma" files is unreasonable.

Bummer, and I got a nice VMV which turns out is using the WMA 10 Professional audio codec. But I'll survive

Just wondering, is this currently not supported and will it be in future, or is there mayve a licensing issue preventing this to be supported, or something else. Just so my expectations are correctly set on what to expect (or not).

Thanks

Jan

BTW, I did put the WMV on a USB stick and played it through my DVD player (has a USB entry). Same result as HD200, nice video, no SOUND. So identical 'issue' as HD200

So is it safe to assume that the HD200 Sage extender cannot play WMV HD files? I can see them in my exterder but they have no sound! If I play them on the server, I can see and hear the videos!

If WMV HD uses always that audio codec, than yes it will not play. I do not know if WMV could play HD with another audio codec.

And I neither know if this is something that can/may be 'fixed' in future, or if this is a licensing issue.

I almost fell into this same trap myself. All my music is ripped in WMA Lossless, and I was about to buy a couple of HD-200's, then I read an old post regarding the HD-100 not playing some WMA formats. I was very surprised, but thankfully it was just in time to stop me so I could double check the HD-200. If we had some sort of clue whether or not the HD-200 WILL be able to play various WMA versions it might help.

My Alpine Car radio says WMA, and does NOT support WMA lossless.

Me too. I was planning on buying one of these for my Mother who is in need of a Sage client of some kind for the lounge. Unfortunately all music is in wmv lossless so the new whiz bang uber 200 is completely useless for 1/3 of it's intended purpose.

Sorry Gerry but I don't agree with the Jesuitical reference to wikipaedia (sic) re: definitions of wma formats. If you say that it supports wma and you know that the device supports less than the full set of wma codecs then I think it's incumbent upon the vendor to pop a little * next to the statement and clarify which formats are supported.

Sadly I'm going to have to send a pc etc up rather than purchasing an hd200. The hd200 would be ideal if it weren't for the lack of support for music.

Apparently it supports flac. Do I need to refer to Urban Dictionary, Ask Jeeves or some other obscure source to reckon whether this means that it actually supports lossless playback or just mp3 files renamed with a .flac extension?

Sage: (I know that they might not read the forums please don't post naff advice re: such) Are there any plans or posibilities to support wma lossless (without drm) either natively or via transcoding to another supported lossless codec?

Mick.

You could just get some converting software, and convert the other stuff directly to FLAC. A lossless to lossless, is still lossless.

True, that's a possibility though unlikely as wmp is working nicely. In my own setup it would mean going back to maintaining two copies of everything so that I can continue to use my Gigabeat MES60V. I've been through this situation with itunes and apple lossless and am not keen to repeat the experience.

I did originally start ripping in flac, but could never get album cover art to work, and I also had to sort out song info. Then I tried WMA Lossless. It was so easy to rip and have all the info already attached I just stuck with it. Not to mention the fact it's already included with Windows. Is there software that's as easy and complete as WMP, but rips to flac?
