I just ordered one as well. I was thinking about upgrading one of my SageTV client PCs to be able to handle the H.264 files recorded via my HD PVR (which I also just purchased). The Celeron 2.93GHz just can't play the files smoothly which I knew would be the case. Although, it can play them good enough to watch which is surprising. However, this device will just be a simpler and cheaper way to go for my living room instead of a full computer that I don't need.

I don't really understand from the description if this works like the HD100 or not. It shows a screenshot of the "SageTV Servers" option, so maybe?
Looks like the new extender that works like the HD100 - I would guess the screenshot infers a new feature perhaps...

I'm in too. I would imagine this is the next version of the HD100, since it is no longer listed anywhere on the website.

I was just getting ready to go to sleep and I thought I would do some piddling around on the internet, and just happened to stumble accross this... only wish I had enough money to buy 2 more.

At last! I can stop reading theories on what the new extender will be!!! Of course they were very entertaining but now I'll be able to watch TV instead

Same here. In fact, I was configuring a new computer to replace my existing living room client on newegg's website. I'm glad I decided to browse to Sage's website. Now I can spend less than half. If I need full PC functionality I can use my HTPC in another room. I rarely need PC features in the living room. I'll just have to get used to using my projector for PC stuff instead of my plasma.

Wow. That's some serious vaguery (is that a word?) <grin>

I wish Sage would provide a little more information. It appears to me that this system will stand alone (for most features), or with a server (for DVR features).

My guess is that this is their answer to all the other boxes supporting Netflix, Hulu, etc. I'm guessing they'll also provide this functionality into this box in future releases.

The question is...will the HD100's support some of the features that the HD200 was built for?

I think now it may support 1080p, in where the HD100 had some problems.

I wonder if that's the only difference. Hopefully not, I was hoping for that local BluRay capability...

I wish they would provide comparison to HD100 to see what is new. From the description on the website I am not able to figure it out. I was hoping they would provide Hulo/Netflix out of the box. Also, just my opinion, but this box looks really ugly compared to HD100.

As people have noticed, the new STP-HD200 SageTV HD Theater is in the SageTV store... the first post of this topic said December & it is Dec. 1, so I think the estimated availability was hit exactly.

I'll have to see about getting the PDF manual available for download later today.

BTW, in case the info page isn't clear (I haven't studied the page): it can work in stand-alone mode to play media it finds on your local network or on a local USB storage device connected to the HD200, without connecting to SageTV server. Or, it can work in the way everyone is familiar with, where it acts as an extender connected to a SageTV server.

There will be more info later, but I've not been keeping as late hours as I used to, so that's probably about it from me for now...

WHAT IF????

You can connect something like this via the rear usb port for local disc playback. It could potentially sit side by side or on top of the new extender.....

WHAT IF???

Looks like the HD100 with a few new features and possibly a hardware upgrade??? Smaller form factor, more features and I'm guessing working USB ports given the standalone player capability all at the same price. Whats not to like?

Oh, and I sure would like to see Netflix or Hulu (or both) ootb as well, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Wouldn't it need to be able to handle the DRM in that there blu-ray player.... I doubt that would happen although I don't really know for sure

Andy:

When you refer to "local usb drive" does something like the device referenced in my previous post be considered a "local USB drive" that would work with the new extender?

Thanks

Can the "non Sage Server" portion of the new device handle DRM? Ya know, the parts that don't need the server to function (what Andy refers to as "stand alone mode")? If so, do you think we could be in business? A protected path from the USB output of the external drive right through to the HDMI output of the extender would be required. If that HDMI output has HDCP (we don't know yet) AND the YPrPb output is down-rezzed, then we would essentially have a protected path, right?

Presumably/hopefully the "non server" portion will handle things like Netflix, internet TV, pandora, etc. which are the things that the old extender couldn't do easily.

Just speculating....

I am bummed that it does not have Wireless-N.

Sage seems to do well steaming online wideo over Wireless-N.

Anyone think the new extender would work well with a Wireless-N Bridge?

I just randomly decided to check my email and fortunately found out about the new HD-200 Extender. Like others here, before I read anything about it, I just click add to cart and begin to fill out the payment form. The pressure was on when I read the online store was closing in 20 minutes for maintenence, I had to work quickly. But my order is in! YAY!

Now to read up on what I just ordered. haha..
