Tried the beta demuxer and it would sometimes freeze SageTV (client) with a spinning circle after skipping. Had to do hard reset. Was much more accurate when skipping though. Hopefully it can be fixed since I've had to go back to the demuxer provided with client 6.4.8.

I'm afraid to even try any of the betas during the Primetime season. If I started screwed up recordings the WAF factor would plummet fast. I'm using a single HDHR during QAM from Comcast and two Haupauge 1600s capturing analog.

Overall what kind of improments/results are those braver than me seeing with the latests betas.

The big thing for 6.5.x is the ability to use EVR. Granted if you have VMR9 working well, you won't see much improvement. If you use Vista, my understanding is that EVR finally allows you to use Hardware accel. If using XP, nothing really all that much better since VMR9 uses HA already (VMR9 in Vista does NOT use HA - from what I've read). Please correct me on that last point if I'm wrong.

You can get HA with VMR9 for mpeg-2 in Vista. You can't get HA for H.264 in Vista without EVR.

The new beta 6.5.3 has a newer version of the mpegdemux.ax file. Wonder if there is any improvement?

is this included in 6.5.3 beta, cuz I upgraded from 6.4.8 to the 6.5.3, do I still need to do this manually or will the 6.5.3 have it and automatically replace it?

Seems better to me. Seeking is much more accurate than the last official release with fewer anomolies than the previous beta. I still occasionally see flashes of prevous frames appear in parts of the screen but this is relatively rare. A little more polishing and it should be as good as my old Replaytv.

I gotta say that 6.5.2 seems to have much better playback (almost perfect) for me. WHen I put 6.5.3 on the system, playback for oftern stutter-ridden and I couldn't get rid of it by just pause/play. As soon as I reverted back to 6.5.2, all is well again. I would think it may be related to a new mpegdemux from 6.5.2 to 6.5.3. Anyone else.

6.5.3 is better for me. 6.5.2 would often freeze playback after fast forwarding or rewinding. I would have to stop playback, then play the file again. Other times it would freeze Sage completely. I had to revert back to the demuxer from 6.4.8 for 6.5.2 to behave properly. I have seen 6.5.3 freeze once after rewinding and fast forwarding, but it hasn't done it since.

I'm not sure I even understand what the problem is that the "new" demux files are trying to fix - I've never experienced anything I would describe as inaccurate seeking - but all I know is I found this thread after installing the 6.5.3 beta on a brand new Vista install b/c I couldn't ff or rw more than once or twice without sage completely freezing on me with the spinning wheel of death. I had to manually stop the process every time and reload Sage.

Reverting to the 6.4.8 demux solved it for me, so I hope they get this straightened out before they send this to release candidate status.

anything that is recorded using VBR (i.e. HDPVR) didn't seek consistently with the old version.

Like the skip accuracy - not so much the stability

Skipping is much more accurate, but had to revert back to the old version.
I had the periodic spinning circle (but it still played) on my HD (Firewire) recordings.
I probably could've lived with that, but my SD recordings would sort of 'Freeze' - the timeline would keep moving but no sound and would just continue to show the last frame before the skip.
The only way to fix it was to stop playback and restart it.

What I've experienced is now that many of my x264 mkv files wont be able to seek (time line just just 0:00 / 0:00) if I FFWD or rewind, it goes back to the beginning. Before I remember it was like 1 out of 20 encodes would suffer from this.. now its more like.. "i just hope that this show a timeline"

Could this be releted to this MpegDemux???

No, that's a SageTVTranscoder issue that looks like it will be resolved in 6.5.4

I am sad to report it still locks up on me. I guess you can call it a lockup. It is as the earlier poster described. If I ffwd or rwnd a large amount, once I stop pressing the button, the video frame appears frozen and there is no audio but the timeline starts advancing as if it is playing. I have to press stop, then play the file again to get things back to normal. I see this more with recorded HD files. Donkey, feel free to come remote in and check it out

I've had this exact problem with the demux that comes with SageTV beta 6.5.2. I just installed the latest 2.0.1.19 demux late last night, but haven't used it much yet to see if it has the same problem. I'll try to remember to turn on the demux debug log to get you a log when this happens donkey.

FYI, if you want to enable the demux log (at least this worked with the earlier betas):

-----------------------------------------------------------------
To enable MpegDeMux.log
create an empty file "MPEGDEMUX_LOG.ENABLE" in sagetv directory, restart
sagetv. sagetv creates a log "MpegDemux.log"
-----------------------------------------------------------------
