Well my thought is that for the purist, the workaround being discussed here is not a perfect solution due to the fact that the X-card picture is gonna get degraded by passing it through an older video card like a Rage Fury and so for some this solution will not be acceptable.
I have found some hacked drivers which may work for the Riva 128 but have not gotten to try them, the supplier says he has gotten the tv out to work on WinXP.
Will post back with details when I get a chance.
So far I have watched some tv tonight with my lowly PII 350 and the PVR 250 . Picture is quite ok, my cable reception on some channels is not too good so hard to be definitive. BUT I do think that if I was to try and record a show and also watch a previously recorded show, the cpu would not be able to cope, so I am thinking the X-Card may still work out good for me.

BTW has anyone used Myth TV and does that work with an X-Card showing the GUI ?

OK, my turn please.

SHS,
I have a Matrox G400. A quick look shows what appears to be a VIP connector. Forgive me for asking but I don't yet have all the hardware to test my G400 videocard yet, so the G400(specifically it's VGA to SVHS adapter cable) is the unknown for me. If I buy an Xcard. Could I use my setup like this SageTV>XCard>VIP>G400>G400 SVHS adatper>TV SVHS input? I'm only concerned about getting this on the TV. I don't care about using a computer monitor

PS:I'm running WinXP.

Got it over 6 monthes ago on Ebay. It came from a link a kind SageTV forum user provided. I got the last one the vendor had. I did alot of research to make sure I got the right one to work with modern AGP slots. If you like I can try and dig up the old thread/post about the exact model #. There was much discussion in the thread about which G400s were suitable.

Edit:Sorry I posted 3 mothes the first time. This is the thread that lead me to it. The vendor is not selling them anymore, but it does discuss the difference between different G400s.

Do you think this Radeo 7500 would work? As you can see in the picture it has a set of pins, but there doesn't seem to be enough?
What yah think?

newegg, they have several of that same card. do you think it would work, they are selling for about $50.
Still trying to get the Riva to work with the TV, first drivers won't install on WinXp. Might be worth just rolling back to Win2K to get it to work?

Hit eBay
How about this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=40161
Look up TNT2
The key thing is make sure there are 13 x 2 rows = 26 in all

Sorry to bring this up again, but curiousity is getting the better of me. What about the Matrox makes it incompatible? I looked at the connector and it is 13x2 long. I also checked the specs at the matrox site and it says the card has VIP support. Does the Xcard need something else in the videocard besides VIP connector? Or is this 13 row connector not a VIP?

Oh well, can't blame me for trying. For now I'll just stick with my plans to use the PVR350(Mpeg1/2) and G400(Mpeg4/Divx/DVD) for my new box. Using two SVHS inputs on my TV won't be too bad. Thanks to Sage2's OSD support for the 350, I'd spend most of my time using the 350. I quess I'll wait and see if Jeff can get SageTV's OSD on Xcard before I buy one. Thanks for the info. I'm going to sleep.

Hello all,
Just out of curiosity - is the reason for using Xcard the price or the ability to output other videoformats (MPEG-4, DivX, etc.)?
I have a PVR-350, and some of problems right know, with STV2 is the problems with PAL and the disability to play DVD through TV-OUT. Does anybody have experience with AnyDVD? As I understand it, AnyDVD works as a filter for DVD playback, which descrambles DVD-Movies automatically in the background, so the DVD seems to be unprotected and region code free.

Does Matrox still sell those cables? I believe I fried my G400, since the computer won't get past POST when it is installed. I'll have to warn you that I'm a procrastinator... but as a last resort, I might be able to find my cables if they aren't available anywhere else.

My reasons for the xcard are the requirement for hardware decoding on slower systems & the fact that I want to watch DVDs. The great picture quality is a plus too, but that might not be a reason to use it instead of a 350.
