I tried a hauppage 1600 and had solid reception but its not a dual tuner so I returned it.

The built in tuner on my samsung lcd also receives all of my locals without problems.

I also tried out a tivo hd for a month but decided against it due to the monthly fee just for recording locals. I have to say using the tivo was a total pleasure. I was picking up all kinds of stations outside my area and had 0 problems with it.

keep in mind I used the same antenna for all of the different tuners I have tried.

I apologize for being so irritable but I feel ripped off not being able to return the hdhr. I really want it to work because its a unique device.

My last option is to use it with the basic cable they give me with internet service. They are missing the CW in digital so that means no recording smallville.

To frustrate me more I upgraded to 6.4.5 sage and 20080711beta1 for the hdhr and it broke everything between sage and the hdhr.

I assume you are passed the 30 day or whatever period to return the item. Most online retailers won't take items back after that period is over. From then on, you have to deal with the manufacturer using the Warranty protection, in this case Silicondust. If you don't want to try the Cable route, and are sure that the HDHR is not defective, I'm sure many SageTV users will be happy to take it off your hands with slight discount from the retail price. After all, it is a used product. Same goes for the HD extender.

This is my setup. Cable direct digital feed to the HDHR. I get in the high 80s and 90s percentage in reception. I have Time Warner and CW is in the lineup for both digital and HD.

This problem is solved I believe.

I have it working again. I reverted back to 20080709beta3 for the hdhr and 6.4.4 for sage. This seems to be the only combo that works. Earlier versions of the hdhr software would just give me a blank screen but still show signal strength in sage.

I'm relived for now. My girlfriend told me she doesn't mind if I go crazy trying to figure everything out because there's no monthly fee.

Sage really is the only option for recording my basic cable package. if I start paying for tivo then I might as well subscribe to a whole cable package.

over 50% of the shows I watch are local stations. The only way for me to get 100% of the shows I really want is to subscribe to all channels. So 8 bucks a month to record 50% of my shows vs over a hundred for all the channels. I think I will take the 8 dollar a month bill and just rent the rest from netflix.

I don't give up easily on projects like this. Its probably best I don't sell my stuff because it would bug me and I would end up buying everything again once the bugs are fixed. I'm going to think about something else for a while now that its working for the moment.

As for the instructions in the other thread for getting the hdhr to work with 6.4.5 it looks a little to complex for me. I'm going to wait for updates. but updates can be scary when you have everything working.
