Might be off topic, but I got to say I'd love to switch to mac.

Problem is the dozen or so PC's (that cost a fraction of a mac) in my house. IF I could legally purchases Mac OS for my PC's I'd switch in a heart beat.

In my case I was an Apple Fan Boi a long time ago but switched to PC for professional reasons. Now, in my new career as a sound guy for independant films I was forced to go back to the Mac as FinalCut is an industry standard. I am so happy I did. I am an Apple Fan Boi once more.

I am only running the SageTV Client on the Mac and it works just fine except 5.1 sound is reduced to stereo even though I have a multi-channel sound interface hooked up that works perfectly in VLC, FinalCut, and SoundtrackPro 2.0

I now have a Mac pro, mac book pro, mac mini, apple tv, iphone among a few apple products, and I can't get enough! I am addicted, and much happier! The mac stuff does just work! It works!

Since I now have a computer which actually works, and doesn't crash as much as windows did, I have more time to do things.. I actually lost 14 lbs since I switched... windows made me fat!

I'm glad you found happiness! I personally also hate macs but some people love them and to each their own. I however am also not a Microsoft lover (though it's what I have), I just hate Macs more. My hatred grew from school years of the frowny faced mac that left but one hope, disable extensions, and reboot. If that fails, reinstall.

My favorite part of your post however is "the ability to do both mac and windows on one machine" and I offer this thought. I as a long time Windows user have NEVER wished to boot to the Mac OS on my Windows machine, nor has there ever been something I just couldn't do without doing so. So, how is it that many newer Mac users see the ability/need to boot to Windows to get something done on a Mac a plus for the Mac? I've wondered about this for a long time, but when you ask a Mac user one on one they get annoyed, hopefully you/others won't, its something I'd like to understand.

Sorry for assisting to drag this off topic from the OP. Also, in no way was this intended to be a flame. Everybody has different needs and everyone should search for the software that best supports those needs. Maybe that's something the OP needs to strongly consider since Sage seems to not be supporting his needs.

That's just it.. YOU never wished to boot Mac OS on your Windows machines... YOU apparently don't have to deal with the things we do in a corporate environment... we have a strong distaste for Windows... but it's our only choice....If I could replace every single instance of Windows in our Enterprise, I would... We're a windows shop predominintly and currently just upgraded from Windows 2000 to Server 2008.. running on ESX, 16 brand new IBM blades... exchange 2007, office 2007... you get the idea.... damn near a million dollar project.. The people that work for me in this IT dept are what I consider the best of the best.. you would be hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable IT staff anywhere..

And every single one of us here in this IT dept are personally on a MacBook Pro... why do we want or "have" to boot windows?? there are apps, unfortunately that only run on Windows.. Is that Apple's fault?? of course not.

Easy there rrambo, it's dangerous to assume things about people you know nothing about, and try not to be so angry about my question when I tried to make it very clear that I was curious, and remain so. I never get an answer because every Mac user I question flies off the handle in such a manner and can't answer.

I do in fact work in a corporate environment, and in that environment, my distaste isn't for windows, it's for the users. The simple fact of the matter is, that a PC will run flawlessly regardless of OS for very long periods of time if very basic security precautions are enabled and no users touch the pc. We have audio delivery PCs here that run on the network, without updates, with no users, that will run a year or more between reboots, running windows XP and windows 2000.

I never claimed that it was Macs fault that some programs only run on Windows. Sure, the ability to boot both is more flexible. My point was that there are things that you NEED windows to do as you just admited. What is it that I NEED a Mac to do?

I carry a Leatherman 15/7 (I do take it off when sleeping/showering) because it is a tool that does pretty much everything that needs doing. A single tool with no re-configuration required. Sure, it doesn't work quite as well as a screwdriver at turning a screw, or quite as well as a real pair of scissors, but it is a single tool that did all of those things out of the box, and frankly carrying all the individual tools just makes you look silly.

Man has this thread strayed from the original topic.

OP made a stupid use of the title by saying SageTV is a waste. Then we took it further down the gutter by making it into a Mac vs. Windows war.
Seriously, the argument is not relevant to SageTV anymore. /rant

I agree and apologize to the OP and everybody else. I really didn't intend for it to become the war you speak of, and I thought I made that clear in my first post, apparently not. In any event, this will be my last post in this thread, I'm sorry I contributed to the straying of topic, and apologize for apparently inciting a riot.
