Thanks for the navigation help. I agree there should be an authoritative sticky post about what commands there are, what they do, and how they're mapped, 'til we get a help file.
White94Cobra had a great idea for making the Preview useful. Sage could be recording from the start of the program on the currently tuned channel, allowing rewind if you see something interesting. BUT- Sage needs to clean up after itself, deleting the program if it hasn't been joined by the end. Though I want to give Sage as much room as possible to do its thing, leftover junk takes up room that could be better used. It's not like a standalone Tivo box where the disk is exclusive, and Sage should recognize that. Same with being able to delete stuff I know I'll never watch. I can certainly live with Recordings and Live Guide being in different places. I wonder if someone from Sage would be so kind as to tell me how recordings are ordered. Seems to me they're just jumbled, with no regard to date, title, or anything else. If you're going to be a Media Center among competing media centers, fine. I'll give it a shot. Tell me how to get my gigabytes of WMA lossless files into the library. They're in standard WM9 locations and subfolders, but I can't find a Setup setting that allows me to point there, nor a way to have Sage search and import. I can't select ASIO as audio output renderer for my Delta 410. Since it gives audibly superior playback on a good system, having it unavailable puts you one down to Media Center 10 from J River. If you're going to be a complete media center, you also need provisions for searching out and playing web media streams. Again see MC 10, Winamp, et al. Are you going to offer CD and DVD ripping and burning, photograph display, support of portable players, etc? Are you going to make it extensible by plugin? Dolby Pro Logic II or SRS support? Not saying you can't or shouldn't become a complete media center, only that your client base is likely to be pretty spoiled by good existing alternatives that have a big head start. I think the point is to provide a well integrated environment for those who want it. It is pretty clear from what we know about Studio that they will also be giving us the means to tie in external software for those who find that the integrated features don't meet their needs. If you don't like the music player or dvd player in Sage, don't use it. I know that I won't if they don't meet my needs, but if they do I'll be happy to use them and not have to futz with it.
And, really, is necessary to be quite so condescending and sarcastic? t |

If I sounded condescending and sarcastic, I apologize. It was not my intent. I'm afraid I know little or nothing about Studio. If it provides the opportunity to tie external software into an integrated environment, bravo.
I also agree that if Sage is able to provide a superior DVD player and music player product, I'd love to futz less. Hence the feedback- to point out some areas that need work if Sage is to be state of the art in those areas. Really, my only reason for spending time and effort on this Forum is to potentially influence Sage in the direction of greatness! |
