Were you trying this with 4:3 AR DVDs or widescreen DVDs? I assume my 4:3 DVDs are getting chopped off a little, but I've only had real problems with widescreen DVDs (since they apparently zoom in on a 4:3 AR box in the menu, then the TV/extender proceeds to chop off a bit more than that). |

You guys have any examples other than T3, I don't believe I've noticed this on mine.

Ok here are some more that demonstrate the problem: Firestarter, National Treasure, Spiderman2, Fantastic Four, The Italian Job (this shows it the best - from the HD100 the border around the menu follows the edge of the SDTV with exactly the same space around all sides but the standalone player shows about an inch more on each side). Sorry these are the only Movies I have on a hard drive currently.

I hooked up my old MVP over the weekend and discovered it doesn't suffer the same problem. The MVP still zooms in on widescreen menus, which I'm pretty sure is normal, expected behavior. However, the HD100 stretches the picture horizontally significantly more than the MVP. After looking at it closely, it looks to me like the DVD menus are distorted horizontally on the HD100. The MVP and HD100 look like they stretch things vertically equal amounts. That is, while the MVP is just zooming in, the HD100 seems to be zooming in (by the same amount), and stretching out horizontally.

Just to give an update on this: I don't think there's actually a problem. The extender is suppose to zoom-in on widescreen menus if you're using a 4:3 TV. It usually does it correctly, but some DVDs are screwed up.
As for what BobPhoenix noticed, I think the HD100 has more overscan than the MVP, and I'm almost certain its more than most standalone DVD players. It's not something that concerns me though. So, sorry for the false alarm! |

I would tend to agree with this as I'm noticing a little more of the actual picture cut off than I remember from my MVP. Also it appears to be dependant on the file type as well. It doesn't look like my ASP MP4 files have as much overscan as a just recorded mpg file. No doubt the overscan is due to the crappy SDTV I'm using!
