I dont think users dealing with user names and passwords would be an issue . My wife and kid don't know how our HD Extender, Sage or our computer works and they are not interested in knowing it. But they know that when they sit at the computer they have to click on their name/icon to proceed (we don't use any passwords). I setup all for them. So what I would do is
1. Setup individual profiles (e.g. Adults, Kids, Guests) 2. Some profiles would have passwords some not 3. I would setup individual import directories for each profiles + I would go to individual files I dont want them to access and either hide them from the profile or password protect them. User would then just choose the profile they want to use and either it doesnt ask them for password and they proceed or if it has password, they have to enter it to proceed. Once they proceed they can see and do only what I have setup for them. |

agree. Really really want this.
We need a good robust and easy to use UAC. I hat turning on parental controls and then having to enter a password every single time I switch to something that is controlled. If I were logged in as me then there could be no restrictions, much better model. thanks

If this thread is still active, I have a question. For those who would like Sage to keep track of "who watched what" so shows won't be deleted until everyone has watched, what would you have Sage do when multiple people are watching at the same time? I can't imagine a realistic way to let everyone "check off" a show in that scenario. Who's going to go through the trouble?
I'm curious, because by and large, I would like to see some sort of UAC/User Accounts. - Jeff |

At least that's basically what happens now if I decide to watch a show live (not through Sage) or if it records a re-run I've seen before. Since there's a watched button it's really simple, so I don't think too many people would complain about that.

I don't think anyone would complain, it just wouldn't get done, I believe. My wife and my kids don't go through and perform "maintenance" on program listings, and I don't think I could convince them to. That's pretty much why I asked the question. I think shows waiting for everyone to check "watched" before deletion would sit for a long time, forcing me to ask everyone, "hey, did you watch X yet?"

Personally I would still allow someone to mark it watched and affect everyone but it would be extra prompts to confirm that they really want to mark it watched for everyone.

Well one of the (many) great things about Sage is that if the default interface didn't allow that I'm sure one of the talented people in this group would make a version that did . What they allow in the menu isn't nearly as important as making it possible in program to begin with.

Just wanted to add a "me too" to this thread. This is the biggest obstacle in being able to replace my standalone Tivo's with media extenders throughout the rest of the house.

As a Sage TV fan with a whole house DVR system I think the user access control is must.
I have a Sage TV server with 8 tuners and over 4 TB of space available to it. We have 6 media extenders, 3 of which are in the kids rooms. Multi-user access control has been an issue since I put the system in. I have no idea why Sage would over look this for sooo long. On the kids computers there is a software that's called Enuff which controls how much time they get on weekdays and weekends as well as the hours and programs available to them. For Sage I'd love to even have the ability to turn off there media extender connection at a certain time. There are so many needs for this that it shouldn't even be a question about getting it done. Would I pay extra for it? ABSOLUTELY! |
