Good to know. Glad to see I'll probably be getting the fixed up version.

Can't wait to hook this thing up. Got a DirecTV H21 all ready to go.

Ok I just arrived home and my HD-PVR was waiting for me. Did I miss a thread about the blue LEDs on the top? I don't see them when I just plug it in to the wall.

Mine does say Rev C2 on the bottom.

Oh well I am going to hook it up and see how it works.

In my office (which is VERY quiet) it is noisy, but in my server it will not be noticeable!!!

The fan is louder than I would like it to be, but not horrible.

I think the fan is changing speeds too. It's louder than I thought it would be but not horrible. I did notice that while I was searching for the IR codes in the blaster config, the fan or something was clicking on and off when pressing the test code button. Weird...

All in all, everything installed pretty quickly and the qualitiy is pretty amazing. I'm pretty satisfied with one exception,
When changing my channels (channel surfing, which I rarely do anymore) it takes a good 8-10 seconds before the channel is changed with my hr21-100 Directv PVR box.
Moving around the SageTV menus is a little slow too.

Now all we need is a way to skip commercials automatically in HD and I'm set for years to come. <grin>

Has this been discussed already somewhere or will a USB-IURT help (just ordered one)?

Unit back from service call

I just got my unit back from service and it has a sticker on the bottom that says 49001 LF Rev C2. There is no cooling fan visible anywhere on the chasis. I am a bit uncomfortable with the unit not having a cooling fas given that I have already had a problem with this one.

I will let everyone know how it works out.

I have the same sticker on mine that I got yesterday. Are you sure you don't hear a fan? Did you open yours to see? I've not but I can swear I here something in there happening. <grin>

Does anyone with a revised HDPVR know (or better, have a picture) where on the board the power for the fan comes from ?

I too am thinking of just putting the mods in myself. I have a heatsink fan combo that's just a little too big that runs on 5v, and I was going to just pull the 5v from the DC input connector. Easy place to solder the fan as well.

SHS - since you are an insider. What or who is Dolphin-2? I did a few searches on google but didn't turn up anything.

Also how much heat can a plastic heat sink really dissipate? My new unit (Rev C2) still gets warm on the outside of the case. I am currious if a metal heat sink would help more then a plastic one.

It not a plastic heat sink it should be Alu heat sink it made by Wakefield Thermal Solutions which is a BGA Heat Sinks model Deltem D10650-40.
Same here get warm on the outside of the case.
This what I sent to the CEO at hauppauge
I see they add a fan and heatsink to Ambarella chip but Analog Device ADV7401 also run hot to and that fun is about useless with NO VISIBLE VENTS on this plastic case when device in idle mode the fan dosen't stay on it only come on when it perview or record mode so over time the heat build in the device.
They told me that should work fine, I did push the HD-PVR for 4 hour and it didn't lock that way.

I don't think the Active Fan Heatsink will work well becase of the size of chip and space need even smallest 40x40mm is still to big so I think the best way to go is with Passive Heatsink

Just idea boys and girls check out http://www.frozencpu.com
I'm think this
A.C. Ryan MeshxPanel™ Modder's Mesh - Silver (ACR-XP0755)
Enzotech BCC9 Memory Ramsinks - 8 Pack (BMR-C1L)
A 5 volt fan size I'm not sure rigth now maybe 60 to 80mm but do keep in mind that the power supply on HD is only 3amps I think the board need 2amps

Check out arogan HD PVR Fan Mod idea

I just emailed support about my unit that is overheating to see about getting an RMA, and they told me to make sure I'm running the latest driver... which I thought I was. I'm running 1.0.3.46, and have been for almost a whole month, but he told me to make sure I'm using version 1.0.3.47. On Hauppauge's site it looks like it's labelled as:

File name: hdpvr_v1.zip
Date: June 13, 2008
Size: 3.8MB

Is anyone else running this version? How would this fix the overheating? and if it does, why doesn't anyone else know about this?

Well, I finally decided to do it. I just ordered an HD-PVR. Hopefully it won't be too long before it ships. I'm order 35772.

I'd like to know more about this also. I'm running *.46 like you. The download on the Hauppauge site lists the driver as "1.0b", but that naming convention doesn't tell me if it's a newer version than what I've got.

Obviously I can just try it, but with such new products I hate to tinker too much once I've got it working--especially when it's something my wife uses! I was just wondering if anyone knows what the change are in the new version (and if 1.0b *is* the new version).

I downloaded the package, and in the .INF files it does list the newer version. I didn't try it though, not yet. I will likely poke around with it tomorrow.
