SHS posted this earlier in this thread. No idea what improvements it does or doesn't include though.

Thanks. I'll give it a try and see if it fixes the problem I'm having with a line of gibberish running along the bottom of the video.

Please let us know if it does. Or if you see anything else different.

Using HD-PVR with OTA tuners (e.g HDHomerun)

Quick question, if you are using the IR receiver and blaster in the HD-PVR to receive remote commands and to control the cable box, what happens if you want to also use SageTV to control and record OTA using another internal tuner or HDHomerun? Do you need another IR receiver to accept the remote commands to control the Sage software or can you use the IR receiver that is already built into the HD-PVR?

Thanks,

No it did not fix the problem. I have replaced the cables, and un-installed/reinstalled all the software/codecs. I will replace the STB today and see if that fixes it.

It doesn't seem to play BD and HD-DVD on my system. It says that there isn't a BD/HDDVD drive installed - which there is. I'm guessing it's disabled in the software....

Here's the problem. I subscribe to Directv's MLB Extra Innings package and the Super MLB fan (or whatever it's called) to get all the games in HD.

Directv uses sub-channels or something to broadcast the games in HD. For example, the Sage Directv guide shows the channels 720-750, which are correct. However, let's say the Red Sox are playing a team on channel 727. The HD version of the game is on 727-1; the SD version is on just 720.

This is a problem because there are no "-1" channels in the Sage Directv guide.
Kinda bummed...
If you get the DirecTV serial control cable (http://www.patersontech.com/) you can map those subchannels to 4 digit channels in the Paterson software. I use to do that with FoodTV & HGTV HD subchannels before they combined SD & HD.

For DirecTV, I highly recommend NOT using Hauppauge IR blasters and either going with the Paterson cable or a USBIRT if you want to change channels reliably. DirecTV receivers are notoriously finicky for IR.

I have to say I'm jealous of everyone and their HD-PVR's. I have to wait until I'm back from a trip before I can even order one. Though by then Amazon may have them in stock.

I keep thinking I should wait until Amazon has it in stock and save myself the 8.50.....unfortunately the wait is starting to kill me and my lust for new toys is begining to win over.

OH MAN!!!! I just got scared $hitless!!!

Everything was set up and I start up the capture program. So the live tv starts playing but it's in black and white with a real abnoxious hissing sound.

I start sweating because I got all the connections right and can't seem what the problem might be

Then I pull out all the connections on the HD PVR and noticed the audio was supposed to be 1st, instead I plugged in the red and white components into the audio ones and the audio jacks into the red and white components.

Now that I have everything RIGHT, using the capture program for live tv viewing isn't too bad, pretty smooth but could be better. I have a Macbook Pro 17" 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

The purpose of the HD PVR for me was getting HD off of my DVR and watching live tv on the computer. Not interested in buliding a HTPC but will probably check out the other 3rd party programs to see which is best for live tv viewing.

Well I'm off to test out capturing HD.

Well I got mine HDPVR today and upgrade my old out date GF6800 AGP to new Sapphire HD3850 AGP with new Corsair TX650W watt power supply
Bad news the dran thing is over heat with in frist few "3 min" ho man that just sinks so I pull it a apart and found that Ambarella A2 and Analog Devices ADV7401 maybe root of are problem is get so dran hot that why the it may stop working.
