Typical, this is why I try as hard as I can to never deal with Amrican company's. Its easer for me to have something imported from Japan half a world away, than from NY state that is 10 minute's away.
Never use UPS ground.
They are outrageous in the brokerage fees department. But I'm not telling anything you don't already know. As painful as it is I would would refuse the package like you plan.

I'm a American with a Canadian wife, so we been burned my UPS ground before.

Lucky for you, I guess Canada doesn't count as "over seas".

I received the following from Hauppauge last week:

"There has been a slight delay in the manufacturing of this product but we
expect to be able to ship your order by the end of next week"
(i.e. this week)

Followed by this today after inquiring why I hadn't yet received any shipping information:

"The over seas orders for the HD PVR will ship out by mid June"

No explanation, no apologies. These guys really aren't managing the process very well.

Okay SHS, I know you're a Hauppauge expert and have an inside track but how did you get the latest driver when it isn't up on Hauppauge's site yet?

Is this driver different then the one thats on the boxes being shipped out?

I am really, really excited for this . For those of you getting units today, do you have "premium" (ESPN/TNT/HBO) channels in HD that you can test out with recordings?

Can't blame a guy for trying . I appreciate the info continued good info though. So if you have a HD-PVR already (just guessing), can you spill any info on it? Hows it working for you? What's up with those blue, LED lights in some of the photos?

Did you write down the name of the person who said it would be sent air? Usually in these cases the company wants to do the right thing, there's just internal miscommunication and a lack of focus, so don't give up. What are they saying? Are they saying you made a mistake yourself and requested ground shipping? If not, why would they refuse to correct the problem?

I suspect the over seas reference wasn't intended to be literal, unless the plan is to ship to Chile but not Hawaii.

No email unfortunately and didn't see anything posted regarding international orders not shipping till mid June, but may have missed it. Time to continue the waiting game...

Actually, it will take AC3 (dolby surround) optical audio in. HDMI is never going to happen; how are they supposed to get around HDCP?

Because of HDCP you're probably never going to see a device like this for HDMI unless it's a professional level device that costs a whole lot more than a meager $250. You'll be waiting a long, long time. I would expect 5.1 to be supported once they get the drivers polished.

Surround sound should be working in weeks, it's only driver issues, not hardware... but, you'll be waiting for HDMI for, well, EVER. Unless some miracle happens and the industry decides to abandon HDCP, you will never be able to record HDMI, as all the settop boxes use HDCP.

I'm actually planning using this device to capture HDMI. Unfortunately there's only one provider here and their STB outputs HD via HDMI only (component output is downgraded to SD). Using an HDFury to stip the HDCP and convert to VGA and a VGA->Component converter.

That is an option, of course, but the HDFury as you pointed out, converts the HDMI to Analog in order to take advantage of the Analog Capture box. A pure Digital capture will not be possible, without very expensive equipment, and of questionable legality.

Your right it was not intentional, I'm still angry though considering how much money is in involved and they get it wrong. Basically what it looks like is the main company/office had my correct information and the shippers/warehouse screwed up the shipping order and my postal code.

It was Vincent I was talking to via E-mail and then on the phone. He has assured he has personally fixed the problem and went down to the warehouse himself to chewout whoever is at fault. He said I will not be charged any duty's though my order will be delayed a day or two as it was sent to the wrong place. He also assured me my second order would be sent correctly and on time...

I'm basically at a loss right now. I'm pissed at the screwup and the delay, but at the same time they are apparently genuinely trying to fix the problem. As long as it gets here without COD in less than a week I suppose I can count myself lucky.
