what's the point of the loop-through? I guess I envisioned this thing having one component in, one audio in, and out via usb.
really dont care, buying at least one anyway, but just curious.

Either way, not a bad looking unit. Just make sure they are the last devices at the top of your component stack and then order some nice short component cables from MonoPrice and it should work very well. I just hope that SageTV is able to manage the channel changes from MY remote (MCE Remote) rather than having to use the Hauppauge remote that it comes with. |

The hcw_hd_pvr2_1080i_h264.ts file is 82.3 Mbytes (84361216 bytes) 125 seconds long. So for the 25 fps second it is 659 Kbytes per second. Not Bad 2.4 GBytes per hour. Do you know if 30 frames per second or 60 fields per second is an option?

I hope I don't end up threadjacking here, but how easy would it be for them to plug the analog hole and make this a pricy paperweight?

They would alienate a HUGE percentage of customers if they killed Component outputs on boxes. This wouldn't be an issue. Even if legislation got passed making these devices illegal, it would be years before you would see it enforced. In summary, you probably don't have to worry for the next five years. And by then I, don't know about you, but I will have a flying car, and video will be jacked straight into my brain.

I will absolutely be buying this; if this works as described, this is a total game changer.
Hopefully we have a solid set of drivers upon release. |

I wonder why it needs a remote in the first place? What purpose does this device serve unless you are using it through a computer which would be doing all of the channel changing via a repeater?

The remote is to control the WinTV application software as well as provide an interface for HTPC software, aka SageTV, that Hauppauge official supports. Its exactly the same remote/software included with this as is included with the PVR/HVR cards.

If the Components are In and out I wonder if I could use an UWB hub and just leave the PVR in living room.

/noob on
1) Since the analog hole is already taken advantage of by the input, why not include an HDMI output as well? (like AVR's that do any source-to-a-single-HDMI output) Or am I missing something in the process? 2) Also, with an added video processor, couldnt this thing legally upconvert all recorded HD content to 1080p? (again, like an AVR) Or would doing so make it cost prohibitive? 3) Can we easily switch out the hard drive(s) without voiding any warranties? I'll hang up now and listen to your responses... /noob off |

My extenders wont touch it either. I am hoping that Sage has already got an update to make it work, but since the product isnt out yet, why would they release software for it, right?
