Well, it remains to be seen if Hauppauge will activate such a downscaling "on board", or did you mean recompress the file afterward? |

Also, with software encoding it's really not hard to create 720p60 out of 1080i30, using something called a temporal field separation filter. So I bet hauppauge includes that feature. Their website says it will do AAC OR AC3 audio. I wish I could get my hands on a 720p file with AC3 audio from them. If that works, I'm sold, especially now that Dish added Sci-fi HD. That really just leaves FX as the only channel they don't have that I'd like. Last edited by lobosrul; 04-23-2008 at 09:41 AM. |

That really kind of stinks. I've grown to dislike the use of blue LED's. They were "neat" when they first came out but most of the time they're way too bright! I live in a one bedroom apartment so my computer is in my bedroom. The average blue LED is so bright it keeps me up at night. I actually have to put electrical tape over the LED's on my computer so I can sleep. Otherwise it's like someone is shining a flashlight in my face.
So this development is pretty disappointing for me.

Does anyone have any idea how fast a machine would be needed to transcode one of these files on the fly? I have 2 MVP's and use a placeshifter quite a bit, I am in the process of upgrading my server and I was looking at a Q6600 v Q6700 v Q9300 v Q9450 to see which one I should spring for. I know the higher i get the better chance I have for getting the most success but i am having a hard time justifying the 125 Price variation between the Q6600 and the Q9450. any insight on transcoding these files?

Note: the video input format determines the recorded format. For example, 1080i input records at 1080i, 720P records at 720P, etc.. Any other format conversions needs to be done with the MediaConvert program (supplied). |

That depend on how you set up your Cable/Satellite receiver output which can be 1920x1080i, 1280x720p, 720x480i and 720x480p resolution with 16x9 or 4x3 profile and so on unless your receiver is full automatic resolution.

So if I have this hooked up to a HD stb from my cable company and I have it on a channel that is not in HD than what does it use to record? 480?

That depend on Cable receiver output if it automatic resolution then it should drop to 720x480i or 720x480p resolution but I'm guesting that you have to manual set the resolution output like us Dishnetwork user can so it depend on the TV receiver.

Are you guys ordering these now before Sage support? Or did I miss something? Any word from Sage about support of these yet?

The zatznotfunny (hate that name, although it is memorable) website said Sage told them they were going to support it, but I haven't seen anything official from Sage.

The big unknown is how soon after the HD-PVRs are delivered will SageTV have support. I'm guessing it will be immediately. BeyondTV has it working with live TV and is just working through the "polish" of the support and I'll bet you SageTV is at the same point or further. |
