I agree, it looks like a Sage issue. It has been, it seems, for over a year... Funny that no one has submitted it. I got Womble MPEG-VCR based on recommendations from here. Others seemed happy with it.

I have tried a few new things:

1. Drive was terribly fragmented. Defragged, no improvement. Test file freezes in the same place, exactly.

2. The time indicator continues to run as the audio and video are frozen. When I left it alone, the file ended and closed at the time that Sage knew as the end. The file was 5 minutes shorter than this. Two minutes were removed from the front and 3 minutes from the end. Nothing edited in the middle. It really looks like a problem with Sage not knowing the file time length.

3. File never has any issues with 3 other video players.

4. Another test file only has 1 minute removed from the end. It has the same issue, but at a different place in the file.

I had the same problem. I switched to videoredo and have never looked back. The files that I was having problems with I just opened with videoredo and saved them again and apparently videoredo fixed what ever the problem was. Just my 2 cents.

I have to add a metoo for VRD. I tried about a half a dozen different editors and VRD is the most trouble-free and it is as fast as any of the others. Sage does seem a bit tempermental with flaky files much more so than WMP and other playback apps.

Thank you for the encouraging posts re: VRD. I have a trial copy and am ready to give it a spin.

One immediate issue that I have with VRD: Anyone use it over RPD? Since my Sage PC is connected to my TV in the family room, I have to connect to it remotely to run Win32 apps. VRD doesn't seem to take well to that... As soon as I selct open file, it flashes and locks up. Any ideas or feedback?

Solved this problem with a legitmate copy of VideoReDo.

VRD is working great for me. As one member said, it even fixed the files that Womble messed up. No more freezing for me! Great tool.

I would still like to see Frey fix whatever it is that Sage doesn't like about Womble-edited files. I think Womble is the better program.

I too am having this problem. Haven't tried VideoRedo yet, but will give it a shot.

I have reported this problem to womble and provided a sample file. I believe they are working on the problem. I last heard from them on 3/31/05 when they stated "I'll try to see the problem and I'll report back to you shortly.". I reported this for MPEG video wizard and referenced this thread.

The "0 minutes" problem is a problem with SageTV's code that monitors the files in your "import directories." It occurs when:
1) you are copying a file into a video import directory or saving it into a video import directory (from VideoReDo or Womble, for example)
and
2) SageTV chooses that particular time to do its automatic search to see if there are any changes in the directories.

Apparently this code just checks the file name for changes -- if it checked the file size, then it could get the updated info when the file changes.

THE FIX:
1) rename the problem file temporarily
2) force SageTV to do an update of its media libary (this is easy with Cayars17 -- it's on the Maintenance screen). If you can't force it, just wait an hour or two.
3) change the file name back to the proper name
4) force SageTV to do an update of its media libary (this is easy with Cayars17 -- it's on the Maintenance screen). If you can't force it, just wait an hour or two. Since this time you were not editing/copying the file, it has all the data and picks up the proper times.

Since I keep many longer-term videos on other machines on my network, I am very familiar with this problem. I ran into it today with VideoReDo, which I'm just starting to use, and that was exactly the issue.

Dragon,

Your fix suggestions are very helpful, but your "Journey to the Dark Side" of coffee on your web site is awesome!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. If you stopped on the "Journey" part, follow some of the links, or use the pulldown bar, to more detailed pages on espresso and coffee roasting.
