reverse: I took a look and couldn't find the app I used before (dumped everything I wasn't using last upgrade) but I took a look out at version tracker and found Export Artwork which, for OS X users, integrates pretty well with iTunes and will look for the image at Amazon.com. The real purpose of the app is to export embedded images but it will also make a playlist of all the tracks missing artwork, try to find the artwork on amazon, and embed the artwork in the id3 tags. I think it found about 70% of the artwork I was missing.

One Step More

After I embeded the logo into the mp3 file I :
removed import directory
shut down sage completely
restarted sage
re-added the import dir.
**********this is what I didn't do the first time*****
shut down sage completely
restarted sage
*******************************************

Then it worked.

You shouldn't have to shutdown after readding the dir. I don't anyway. I takes a while for it to scan through it, though, if you have a lot of music.

Are you guys adding the album art to every mp3 file in the album?

Is there any additional compression that goes into embedding the image in the mp3 file?

If not, and you add them to all the files, if understanding this right... wouldn't you really making a trivial amount of copies of the image hense wasting space. (I have ~10000 mp3s, therefore would rather not store the same image over and over)

Folder.jpg was a nice method

This will run through your whole mp3 directory and download the cover art for you. You'll need to use something else to embed it into the mp3s.

Gotcha Covered

There has to be a better way to do this, I have 38,000+ (148gb & counting) mp3s all organized and compatible with most apps that read cover art. My images are in jpg format and have different sizes. If I need to redo all my cover art I might as well give up on using Sage for playing my music.

reverse: no problem

Doug: I certainly don't have any inside info but it seems to me that it isn't inconceivable that if enough people request this, they will add it. In the mean time, the only feature you are missing is the cover art on the "by Album" organization. With 38,000 songs, I wouldn't think that that would be a very efficient interface for you anyway.

ErsatzTom,

I may need to just code something myself. I love Sage and I hope I didn't come off as being critical. My hopes of finding a single interface where I can "present" a multitude of different (my) media is just side-tracked a little. Personally I would much rather the guys focus on more important items at this time.

I am running iTunes to rip and then like “follower” I go to Amazon and others to get the cover album. With Version 2 I am getting an error when I use ID 2.4 so I converted to ID 2.3 and it runs fine. I also do not change the size of the album pictures because iTunes does it for you.

When ever I make a change I also remove the dir, reboot and then add the dir back. Then I reboot and everything shows up.

***or is the latest 3.x and not 2.x? I forgotand I am not at my home machine.***

Use 125x125 JPG cover art work being I not sure if Jeff add PNG or BMP as an image format.
SHS,
I purhased MMJB 'Plus' and I must say it's doing the trick. Thanks for the suggestion as the program and it's features are awesome.

I'm writing a way to rip a CD using Music Match, then Download the Album Art via Amazon, Sync the ID3 tags and embed the Album Art using Mp3 Tag Tools.

Anyone interested in it? Currently it only rips the CDs. I'm starting on the Album Art download (I'm already aquainted with the Amazon API) and the Mp3 Tag Tool automation shouldn't take long.

If you moved up to Music Match Plus that would imbed the image files into the tags itself, wouldn't it?

gplasky: MM Plus will embed them only if someone else has uploaded the album art, plus with my method you won't have to buy anything, just use 2 free programs. This script should work with MM Plus to still Rip, but it'll need Mp3 Tag Tools as well. MM is a pain to automate because of it's skinnable interface.

DougTea: I could write a modification of the current script to do everything but the CD ripping and instead run through your mp3 directory and find folders that don't have a album cover in them - I leave my album covers in the folders named as folder.jpg.

Album Art downloading works now and I had to tweak dealing with the last CD track so MM stays open a little longer than it should, but it's not too bad.

On to Mp3 Tag Tools automation...

Here's album art examples...

I'd be interested in trying it out. I do own MM plus but I would like to see things automated. I would like to be a guinea pig.

PS:Have you considered another CD ripper other than MM? There are some other good ones out there. I like Easy CDDA myself. I'm pretty sure there are even some good commandline rippers out there. It seems like these would be easier to make transparent to the user when you get everything fully intergrated. Or is hiding the ripper from the user not one of your goals?

PPS:I can't wait to see what you do when they release the studio.

Thanks justme

The script is almost done, just finishing up some little things to make it not so specific to my system.

I'd love to use another ripper because I hate MM, but it's the Sage reccommended one - and the last one I used did something screwy to the tracks to make Sage think they were double their original track length. Keeping it more transparent would be nice. I've noticed that MM takes up more CPU than other rippers I've used in the past - and it can make watching TV a little annoying when it ripping in the background.

I'll let you guys know when I've finished it up (maybe later tonight or tomorrow - super bowl and all )

Ok, here it is.

Keep in mind these things:

This has not been tested on any other computer.
You should be running Windows 2000 or better, but I think this will work on 98 and Me.
You have an active internet connection for downloading the album art in the background.
Amazon's search interface isn't perfect, and you might end up with the wrong album art.
I use the first CDROM Drive Letter to rip Audio Tracks.
I assume that my version (8.2) of MM acts similar to previous versions.
Music Match rips mp3s and puts them into a "Music Path\Artist\Album\*.mp3s" format
Music Match will not overwrite mp3s that are already there, I will delete the files in the "Music Path\Artist\Album\" directory.
I assume Mp3s Tag Tools version 1.2 is installed.

For this testing version, I won't be deleting anything, I just rename the album to album.old if I find it...that way you can revert back if my little program screws something up.

I do search for MM and Mp3 tag tools before starting up, and I make sure that the CdRom is closed and ready for reading, but some of this stuff might be version specific...so try it out and give me feedback!

Thanks!

heh, I changed something already...

The program downloads the large album art first, then checks it's size because Amazon sometimes puts a placeholder for the large image. If the downloaded image is a place holder, then it goes after the medium size album art.
