Why? The current release already supports the extender.

Like I said. Speculation.
But the next "official" release fixes significant bugs that affects the extender.

Didn't Sage already say a while ago that the new shipment would be in sometime in February? It would seem as though they are still on track for that, albeit the end of February. How many times do they need to repeat themselves?

They replied to the email that was sent to sales. Seems like a post here would save the emails and the repeated questions.

It is February 14th today. So I can confidently say that it will be delivered no earlier than mid to late February !!!

I have recently been introduced to SageTV. I have been reading quite a bit about it and am anxious to start playing with it. Unfortunately it seems that most of the extender hardware is virtually impossible to obtain. Is there anyone willing to provide a date on any of the hardware? I haven't made much of an investment because I don't know if the extenders will ever be available at this point.

I know a small company doesn't have the resources to churn these things out, the amount of time that has passed is a little disconcerting. I'm still waiting to buy my first one. My HTPC Sage client is on the fritz and has been since December.

Emails from Sage still seem to imply end of February.. which isn't that far away!

The real concern is will this shipment also sell out before everybody can grab one!

It also keeps us more active on these forums.. as we all check back continually for any update.. in fear we might miss our window of opportunity!

Especially since many plan to order multiple units this time and at this pace it will be May before the next shipment.

I suspect that the first batch was a test batch. Testing both the technology and the market. Since they now have this information they can take a bigger risk and make the next batch a lot bigger. I would almost expect that the supply will be continuous from here on out - but we will see.

I would agree with this statement (obviously based on no infomration from Sage). It is a sound business decision to first buy/build a round of equipment, make sure there truly is the demand (sometimes what is perceived and what truly is are different) and boy wouldn't it have stunk to buy 10,000+ only to have to replace all front panels due to the poor IR receiver issue? Now you have a fairly large population using them and the only hardware issue was the ir receiver? That would make you feel pretty confident to now make your 10,000+ order. Once again this is solely based on a business background and has no "insider" information from Sage.

Really? It seems like a VERY POOR business decision. The majority of cost would be in tooling and setup, not in production. To sink 80% of the cost of production into a test run wouldn't be very smart. Also, to use a production run to test a product, by providing it to end users to have them "test" it for you, just is very poor business. Not to mention that market research is far cheaper than test production. If they wondered if their was a market, this could have been determined far cheaper.

It is far more likely that when the problem was discovered, production was halted so that the problem could be fixed and it has taken some time to fix the problem and get it back into production.
