OK Sage, when is hardware version 2.0 coming out? Seems like a no brainer for the next revision.

looks easy enough, much less than when i modded my xbox! But man, that open hole sure is unattractive, looks like a stray bullet hit the front panel

and what the heck, i was wondering why the extender was so big. All that open space could be holding a dvd drive! Get on it dvsing!

Nice work, BTW.

If anyone can find an online source for an LED lens/cap that clips into a 3/8" hole, please post! It'd be nice to cover this up with something transparent to IR. (although, when it's in the entertainment center amongst the other equipment it's hardly noticeable IMO)

Here you go...

They are 10 mm but should work with a slight enlargement. There is a 5mm version as well...

Boy I must have been a good boy this year.

UPS was supposed to get this think to me on the 17th, low and behold it showed up TODAY

I hooked it up, the firmware update went fine.

Running it now to test and get settings correct.

But folks I am having 0 problems with the remote, it is as fast as using my PC with the Windows MCE remote. It is also working from the side, from across the room etc.

Maybe I got a good one

Digikey has one that should work nicely, take a look:

LED Lens

They are for 3/4" LED's, and look like they should fit into a 3/8" hole, although it might be better to drill slightly smaller. They are only $0.50 a piece, and come in clear, red, amber, blue, green, and yellow.

My HD extender isn't coming until next week, but if my remote is unresponsive I won't think twice before doing this mod.

So was it just me, or did there seem to be lots of extra space under the hood? Almost seemed like the unit could have been the size of a SD MVP + 30% or so.

Seems like the unit is small enough, but (in this case) isn't smaller better? Or does this allow more passive air flow?

Maybe room to add a DVD drive or a hard drive.

What are they going to use those USB ports for? I can't imaging they would go through the trouble and cost of including them without some concrete plans in place.

Of course I finally decide to break down and buy one today and they are OOO. Fuuuudddddddggggeeeeee (Christmas Story).

It would be interesting to see if you could hook an external USB dvdrom drive to the extender.

If that works, then you could even make it an "internal" drive by disconnecting the internal USB connecter and using a IDE to USB connector (one that also has an external power supply that you would have to drill a hole into the case to run the power). Unfortunately, it appears the only way you could "mount" the drive would be to mount it to open to the right side.

You know... if you have a JP1 remote, you could program the HD100's remote codes in directly. They are listed in the HD100 remote control FAQ.

That doesn't make any sense. If Sage does decide to sell a replacement front cover plate, then drilling a hole in your existing one to fix the problem in the interim can't hurt.

Problem is your not thinking clearly Dan yes it dose what if the manufacturer decide fix them self and ask sagetv to do exchange and return them problem units back to them keep in mind that sagetv is not the manufacturer.
Guest what you done drill a hole in cover and guest that viod your warranty.

Thumbs up Running very well.

The remote issues I have are very minor, I'm sure after playing wit it for a little while I get it just right. Supplied remote works better than MVP and my Programmable 'R7' Remote. Select button is a little lagging, but very minor.
Only 12hrs into Testing, but my 'R7' remote produces codes then immidiately a 0, when using 'show sagetv remote codes' in the commands set-up.

This is a very good product, maybe rushed out for the holidays, because of the huge demand. I thank sageTV for making the big leap no other PVR or HTPC programs have made! I think the vast majority of people who wer fortunate to get the 1st shippment, have little issues, but are very happy!

People reading this and thinking on buying one, don't wait. 1st shipment sold out in 1 week, next shipment jump on it! NO CODECS,NO DRIVERS, NO NOISE, extreme upside with a supported product with controled hardware issues.
SageTV and there user support will have all the little issues eliminated very quickly. Soon after they started supporting the MVP all my issues went away(with SD content). New technology always poses issues but with this release sageTV shows me that they want to stay in pace with the times.

problem with waiting is that I do not think there has actually been an acknowledgement of the problem yet. But I do agree that if they do try to make it right, i can not see them sending out replacement front panels if it is not just a matter of snapping the old one off and a new one on. They would basically be forcing everyone to void their warranty to do the fix, on top of unscrewing the circuit board from the front panel and putting it on the new one. That is just asking for trouble if you ask me.

Just to chime in here - the remote issues have started to annoy me after a couple days - when on the couch right in front of the unit it's not a big deal but from _anywhere_ else in the living room you pretty much have to get up and move in front of the unit. And the distance is way shorter - even a straight shot right at it only goes about 12-15 feet or so - my kitchen table is about 18 feet away and it doesn't pick up even occasional signals, you gotta get up and move closer. It's quite bad and a major downgrade in remote responsiveness from the MVP or my PC client which we've had in the same space for a while now. The wife sez she wants the PC client back if the remote can't be made more responsive, so regardless of if it voids my warranty or not, I think there's a 3/8" hole going in the front of this thing sometime this weekend...
