To add extensions just add it to the Video Library Import Extensions line in the sage.properties file (make sure Sage, service and all, is not running when you do it).

I've never tried m2ts myself.

Bialo,

Can you post your latest tutorial / steps. I am trying to do what you've suggested but I am currently broken trying to get my VC12avi files re-merged. Can you provide your current step by step.

Also, I used EVODemux to get the elementary streams VC1 and DD+. I then used VC12avi on the VC1 stream to generate the .00.avi ~ .06.avi files. And I used EAC3to to convert the DD+ to AC3.

The AVI's by themselves play back in Sage and on Extender and it is sweet...but being only 1/6th of the file and no sound, it isn't quite the home movie experience I am looking for . I am currently stuck trying to get the .avi's remerged. I forget the app folks recommend but it errors saying no decoder (like folks say it will)...but unlike everyone who says "ignore the error"...it doesn't seem to load the file, and I can't "append"...

thanks,

jmv

You shouldn't end up with multiple AVIs, you should only end up with one.

Thanks for the response...as far as I can tell VC12avi breaks it up into 2GB files if it is greater than 4GB...I used the older VC12avi and it made my 15GB VC1 stream into a 4GB stream...the 1.01 VC12avi delivered 6 2GB files.

hm, interesting.

Maybe EAC3TO is a better option now, I haven't tried that yet.

That was my experience with the latest version of VC12avi also - seems like that's a new feature of the tool.

I've had good success with eac3to, but I haven't my test rip to play on the extender yet. Audio works perfectly, but video is heavily pixelated. Not watchable.

So I guess we haven't had success making a full length feature EVO into a SageTV watchable/hearable solution...this stuff drives me nuts "run the streams through 13 ulilities each to do something I don't understand...5 hours later take a shot and see if it plays back"...you may or may not have all the proper codecs installed but instead of erroring with some sort of explanatory think...it just says error 2...this is definitely the kind of thing that drives one insane...

Well it is good to see confirmation of what I'm seeing on VC-1. When I use vc12avi I get 7 2gb files. I used mkvmerge and "appended" them all together along with the audio. When playing on the extender it started out fine, but every 15 minutes there is a spot in the movie where it stutters bady. I'm thinking this is about where the 2GB file ends and the next one begins.

With eac3to, I get the heavy pixilation, but it plays fine in WMP. I no longer have a client, but wonder if sage would play it ok on a client. If it works on a client, then maybe sage will get it to work on the extender.

That matches my experience almost exactly. the eac3to processed file DOES play nicely on my full Sage client.

Thanks for the feedback on how the client handles it.

Here's hoping that the extender has the horsepower for Sage to get this ironed out. It seems so very close.

I've been using MeGUI to transcode my movies. For whatever reason my HD100 won't play raw BD rips. But they are huge to begin with. Far larger than what I want to keep stored. Storage is cheap but I don't have money growing out of my ears.

I was looking into MeGui yestarday. I may use it as a stop gap until this gets ironed out. In the end, I'd rather store the main title of each movie in its full glory. I have 1TB free in a 4TB array and by the time I use that up, harddrive prices will probably be half what they are today.

My first task for the stop gap would be to determine the highest qualilty settings that the extender can handle.

I've been using CE-Highprofile and changed it to Constant Quality mode with a value of 23.0. For the most part this has been giving me really good results. 2001: A Space Odyssey came in at 2.5GB after converting. I was rather shocked but it is mostly black the whole time. The only movie I've had to re-encode a couple times to give a good size/quality was Stargate.

But I have other problems with Stargate because of the subtitles. MKV doesn't support a Presentation Graphic Stream for subtitles and the one program I found that is able to convert SUP to VOBSUB only reads HD-DVD and not Blu-ray subs. So I'm kind of at a loss there.

I wish I were able to afford more storage. I want to buy a four drive NAS with a couple TB of drives but they aren't exactly cheap. Just don't have that kind of money to throw around right now.

There is an awesome thread on the slysoft forum that probably has the answers to your subtitle problems. I can't post the link cuz it will get deleted.
