Raise a support request. Sage will most likely want to see a sample of the dodgy video...

I'm also not an expert, but if your DVD plays ok then you would be right in assuming the TV picture should also look good as they are both mpeg2. In saying that I wouldnt think that a bad signal or poor reception of a TV signal would produce a fuzzy picture. If it where a poor signal than the picture would be breaking up or have a blocky effect (digital freeveiw) not a fuzzy picture.

Check and see if your DVD is using the same codec as your TV.

You can use a tool called graphedit, record a show from the TV and then play it back via graphedit then do the same for your DVD and see if its using the same codec.

Personnally I'd dump the Nova T 500 as that was the main problem in my setup even though mine was the USB version and not the PCI.

Again I'm not an expert and I'm sure someone will put me right if I'm wrong.

We've had jumpy pictures before in Sage, particularly on certain channels (e.g. ITV2) which IIRC was a result of the mishandling of subtitle data. Sage should be able to look at recorded video and tell what's wrong with it - although trying a different tuner first might be easier!

My nova-t-500 gives me a crystal clear picture whether using sage or wintv.

I'd guess at a faulty card.

Would there not be a problem here as the Nova T 500 is not a supported card?

It looks like my problem is solved. I took rickgillyon's advice and contacted Sage support who suggested I try upgrading to the latest version of SageTV. This I did and the fault seems to have gone.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with this, I really appreciate it. My next challenge is trying to get my new USB-UIRT to control my Sky box. Ah well......

As I said, all I had to do was upgrade to the latest version and the problem was fixed, and it is still ok.
