problem solved. Made the mistake of setting up my HDHomerun first and reusing the same program guide for my HDPVR. This resulted in channels being mapped to something like 108-3-5 instead of what I would call unmapped channels. Once I selected channel 23, which wasn't available through HDHomerun, viola! Channel changed.
