I am pretty sure that you can edit the metadata in the Sage Web interface - whether you consider that "within" Sage is a matter of personal opinion I guess.

You make some good points, its just not for me

You may also be in luck with the a future version of BMT as it looks like it supports mymovies as a provider and will also get all your fanart as well.

Quote:
Added composite fanart providers for all standard providers for dvdprofiler, mymovies, and imdb; they each have a composite provider
counterpart that is automatically created that uses themoviedb.org as a
fanart provider. The composite id is the same as the core one, except with
-2 appended to the id, ie, dvdprofiler-2, mymovies-2, imdb-2.
It may look a bit daunting to setup as you said but its really quite easy.

As jaminben noted, the next release of the metadata tools (2.3) will have support for the mymovies collection xml format. After looking at the xml format, I discovered that it's an almost identical copy of the dvd profiler xml structure, so enabling mymovies was quite trivial.

I'll provide more details on the mymovies metadata provider when I release the 2.3 build.

Can't you just use their providers for the fanart instead of just interfacing with it?

Thanks for the update on BMT. The reason why I want to use a separate UI to maintain my metadata and not just rely internally on SageTV is due to my current setup. I have two HTPCs and an HD200 that I use as extenders throughout my house. I do all my ripping/encoding on my desktop pc and then move over to my server for streaming. On my desktop pc I have really no need to use SageTV aside from maybe testing out some of the latest betas. I don't want to run to the HD200 or the HTPCs everytime just to update the metadata and I definitely don't want to leave it for my wife to deal with, so just having a little app on my desktop that I could use to set up the metadata right after I throw a movie on my server would be ideal.

@ Jaminben - I should mention also what great stuff you have done with AMIS and TV Info Screen. I have recommended the SageMC/HD200 combo to many people and the first thing I insist is they get your plugins installed. Any thoughts on setting up so you can have multiple views/options? For instance, one of the things I really like about MediaBrowser in VMC is the ability to toggle between different views such as coverflow, Thumb Strip, Vanilla, etc... as well as setting up virtual folders, don't know if that is something you have given much thought to. I think there is a new Movie Wall import, an iMovies import, etc... but once again too many moving parts not part of AMIS...

Just a FYI about how BMT works.... It can operate in 3 modes. The first is a commmand line tool. The second is as an automatic lookup process running the sagetv server. The third is as an on demand lookup in sagemc or the default stv.

Since you are a mymovies user, you may want to check out the 2.3 release and run it as a plugin on the server. That way, any metadata that you add/edit for the ripped movie can be picked up by sage automatically, in addition to any fanart for that movie as well. Metadata/Fanart will be fetched automatically from your mymovies collection (and themoviedb.org), when sage scans the filesystem to pick up newly added movies.

Yeah, I know what you mean but thats not the way SageMC works. The screens you mention are the end of line information screens so you can't really have other views as there is only one item available to view. There was some talk of merging AMIS and iMovies to make it easier to install but that seems to have slipped away at the moment. I think ultimatly while I like Amis its a rather pointless screen and we would be better off having the AMIS look built into the iMovies screen and all media files are played from within iMovies.

This is kind of the direction I am going with MovieWall as well. The list view already give the detailed information I am adding it to the wall view with a info listener as well.

As Much as I love AMIS it is really just an extra screen that isn't necessary fully.

I am a former mediabrowser/media center user. I created the wall import you are refering to to help me get over losing media browser while it doesn't have all the bells and whistles media browser does it sure beats the heck out of the default IMHO.

Oh I feel it trust me. The import is my first and has a ways to go before I will consider it done. But what I have working works great.

Those of you who have used Media Browser for MC, what things do you miss most from it when using SageTV?

Are you saying you have your program now taking my movies information??

No near as much now with the wall.

I do miss the ability to theme Media browser easily with different peoples skins/themes.

I don't like coverflow so that I don't miss (not good for a collection)

Overall MediaBrowser just looked really good.

Things I like about my wall

It loads faster and changes pages much faster.
I built it so I can make it do what a want (to the extent of my coding ability)
It plays blu rays to my extender (well that is a sage thing but still)

* As I mentioned earlier, the ability to toggle through different views, I am not locked into one view. For instance, I can set up the "Vanilla" view for my movies but have the coverflow view for my son's movies, maybe the detailed thumb view for my tv shows.

* Ability to use Virtual Folders (not sure if this is a feature in SageMC)

* Not positive if you can do in SageMC, but ability to link up a trailer to a movie to play when in that specific Movie Screen.

* Clean look of UI. For instance using SageMC at stock install there is navigation menu to the left when you go into My Videos (File System, Folder View, etc...). I find this just takes up space and makes the folder icons come out small (I attached a screenshot from SageMC vs. MB)

I know some of this stuff is possibly due to limitations in SageMC (toggle view), and some is just cosmetic stuff that can possibly be changed. MB just has a snappier, cleaner, streamlined feel to it, from initial setup to day to day use.

I will be taking a look at PluckyHDs Wall to see what direction he is moving in.

Once again I want to reiterate I am in no way knocking on SageTV, I am just stuck somewhere between SageTV and VMC (with MediaPortal/XBMC peaking its head out every once in a while) in the battle of the Media Center Softwares in my house

I haven't been much of a participant in the SageTV forums even though I have been a user for over a year, but good to see the members being receptive to different ideas.

Yes... the 2.3 version will lookup metadata using a mymovies collection xml. I used a sample xml that someone had posted either here or in another thread.
