How many of you have the Router show up in My Network Places
Little speed boost...
If you click on the My Network Places then on Show UPnp devices and have the UPnp on the Router enabled, running the UPnp Service and SSDP service then your router should appear in the system tray. Another way you can speed up your MVP Server is to make sure the Adapter Binding order is correct.. In Network Connections Hightlight your NIC I name it LAN if it was wireless I name it WLAN. Anyway click on the Advanced tab in the menu. Then click on Advanced Settings Adapters and Bindings Connections: LAN should be first (local connections) Provider Order Network Providers: 1. Microsoft Windows Network 2. Microsoft Terminal Services 3. Web Client Network If you have Windows 2003 Server leave the order alone which is 2. 1. 3. If you're on a domain the same would be like Server. Home users use the above 1. 2. 3. Make sure you set the NIC card to Auto for MVP.. Some other things you can do is this: (purges and reloads cache name table) nbtstat -r netsh interface ip delete arpcache ipconfig /flushdns if you run 3rd one and get an error saying... Could not flush the DNS Resolver Cache: Function failed during execution. DNS Client Service is not running.. if you type: cmd type: REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache /V Start /T REG_DWORD /F /D 2 The wait for the okay... Exit out Reboot the PC Login back type cmd on run type: ipconfig /flushdns now it should work okay... Something else you can also check on the system: click on run type: secpol.msc If you get an error saying: Security Templates The Group Policy security settings that apply to this machine could not be determined. The error returned when trying to retreive these settings from the local security policy database (%windir%\security\database\secedit.sdb) was: The parameter is incorrect. to fix this you would click on run type: esentutl /p %windir%\security\database\secedit.sdb click okay or yes to continue... wait... now type: secpol.msc it should work now... Reboot the PC Last edited by tipstir; 10-13-2007 at 02:38 PM. |

So, I realize I'm asking the same question over and over again, but is there a fix on the horizon, or do I need to find another software package to stream video?

There have been two people report in another thread that the beta version of SP1 of Vista has corrected this issue. SP1 is due out in the first quarter of next year.

Have last night installed the VISTA SP1 RC (required several reboots). Yeah, it's only valid 'till June08, but early next year I can replace it with the final SP1.
First minor test, very quickly, seems to indciate it has remediated the issues I had with my MVP in combination with a VISTA HTPC . Will do some more testing this weekend . Jan

Not sure if this helps...
Or is even the same problem. I had problems with selecting menus taking forever. I had tried the various TCP workarounds, and the UI_remotetimeout sage setting and it didn't really make a difference. I upgraded to jre 1.6, and everything works fine now.

I doubt it. I think you were seeing a general slowness caused by a old jre. This problem is usually identified by a spinning busy icon and a non responsive remote for about 15 - 60 seconds. this usually occurs when skipping in a program. You may also see the MVP reboot to the home menu for no apparent reason. You can sometimes ran a few hours without seeing the issue, but you probably will see at some point, if using VISTA.
