How I stopped VMR9 stuttering (including 1080i) and solved all my sound issues.

I'm as sure as I can be that it does because if I can swap out the nVIDIA demux for the sage one, it stutters in WMP and in sage. If I put the nVIDIA one back, the stutter goes away in both players.

This is all assuming that you leave everything set to default inside sage options.

I'm not getting the typical stutter issue, but my audio is dropping out here and there on HD recordings. I thought I would poke around and see if I could figure it out, so I ran a .ts file through GraphEdit.

The graph looks much like the above example, except the audio stream goes directly into the AC3 filter and then to the WaveOut device. Also, I am stuck with the Sage MPEG Splitter. When I try and insert the NVIDIA Demux filter into the graph I get the following error:

These filters cannot agree on a connection. Verify type compatibility of input and output pin.

No combination of intermediate filters could be found to make the connection.

If I disable the Sage splitter, then GraphEdit won't even create a graph. I get an error straight off.

Sorry, if I'm rambling. . . I'm new to this level of troubleshooting. Anyone know if any of this is out of the ordinary?

Did you try elevating the merit of the Nvidia filters and rebooting (Steps 6 & 7 from the first post in this thread)?

I'm quite sure that I did. I followed the directions exactly and no luck.

When I get home from the office I will go over everything again.

Thanks for putting this together. I had a few questions.

1. The box on the first page of the AC-3 filter page continues to say (diabled) next to SPDIF, even when it's checked. Does anybody know what I need to do to fix this?

2.What's the benefit of raising the priority of the "Nvidia Audio Decoder". Doesn't Sage use AC-3 for the audio decoding?

The SPDIF checkbox is just a confusing UI feature. So long as the box is checked the SPDIF output should function properly.

Does anybody have this working with an A180 tuner. I made the change to get the ts stream and now I get no signal on all HD channels.

I have it working with an A180. Unfortunately, I'm still stuttering. Big time.

I'm going to go through it again to be sure. But I think it may be time for a nuke 'n pave.

Is your a180 saving as a ts file? Mine creates one, but the size stays 0.

Sorry, should have been clearer. Yes, it saves as a .TS file and plays back. But everything is stuttering, new and old files. HDTV and SD.

I'm not sure the transport stream business is always a good idea.

You don't need to save as ts to use nVIDIA trasnport demux, it will demux mpeg files too. All you need do is set the merits correctly. If using ts messes things up, try switching back to ps.

I think my problem is that I'm using 6.1.3 and as far as I can tell from the forums, transport streams are broken in this version.

the reason why your colors were washed out is probably because of a driver bug.

I used this registry tweak to fix that problem.

All I can say is WOW!!!! what a difference this made. It is absolutely flawless on 1080i material now that was totally unwatchable without overlay before.

I don't think I could have said it better. All this is still a little (lot?) over my head and this made it very easy to smooth it all out.

I've updated my sig to include my modest hardware setup. Everything is at least 2.5 years old; built in August of 2004. I'm not sure it will show up in any of my previous posts, but you should see it in this one.

GollyJer -- I tried your method, step by step, and unfortunately I've got no improvement. VMR9 continues to stutter. And I've made sure that FSE is really on. I get a proper graph, showing all the Nvidia decoders, etc., that it's supposed to show, but the stutter continues.

Happy for those of you that it makes a difference. Just for me, it does not. Hopefully, the developers at Sage are furiously working away at the solution to the problem.
