Could anyone that has a working instance up and running post their experience so far?

I've been running it a week or so and EVO works good, however it seems to be causing problems with my other Favorites recordings. I've recorded the news at 6pm (HD-A-180) and 6:30pm(PVR-150, analog) for over 2 years. The last 3 nights the 6:30 show does not show up as recorded. I have (2) PVR-150's, (2) A-180's and a third A-180 for EVO.

I looked in Sage Log file and it is NOT using my PVR-150 (either one of them) but instead trying to record to the "local_host=6200 client" (EVO tuner). It goes about ten minutes and decides the file is corrupt and deletes it.

I purposly looked at my Server at 5 minutes before 6pm and all shows were scheduled WITHOUT conflicts and sure enough when I went to watch the news later on the show was missing.

I tried using encoder merit but didn't seem to work. On the EVO source setup in Sage I DISABLED all channels except the few QAM channels so as not to have it think it can use the EVO for anything else except these QAM channels.

I am a little dissappointed since my trial is about up and I was planning on purchasing EVO but am rethinking it now.

I will keep trying to get this working but am in the middle of another project (rebuilding my engine that blew up last month).

Thanks, Randy

I haven't had much luck. My channel scan found lots of channels, over a hundred I'd say. I then went through all of the channels one by one and dragged the channel to the "Evo" player screen (very tedious, anyway to automate this?). I found only one channel that would play. During this process I ran into about 4 crashes. The channel I found is intermittent, sometimes it will play in Evo, sometimes it won't. Usually if I quit Evo and restart it'll play the first time. Same in Sage, sometimes it'll play, sometimes I get "No Signal".

Thanks for the feedback. I have to say now that the A180 is a gamble with QAM tuning. I had the same issues here - I chalked it up to bad hardware, but we had good success with other beta testers. DVICO Fusion cards seem much more reliable for tuning.

We may build an auto search feature for the channel scanning. i.e. Record snippets of each and detect if there is any real video in the stream.

I am using an A180 so that could be it. Maybe that's why Avermedia hasn't added QAM support to their app. I do also have an FusionHDTV 5 lite so when you get support for that I'll give it a try.

And the auto search would be great, I don't care how long it takes as long as it could run unattended.

Thanks,
Greg

Everyone - I have extended the trial period to 30 days! I hope this helps everyone work out any kinks in getting this working.

Viewing Channels

Got everything setup tonight, found about 40 channels, but none of them are viewable in the EVO software. My default MPEG2 decoder is Cyberlink DVD. Has anyone else experienced the same problem viewing the channels within the EVO Console?

Hi Stealth1971,

Just a quick question, but you you plan to always have a trial period for this software? I *may* have a use for this in a couple of months, but don't know as of yet, nor do I have the time to even evaluate it.

Just curious.. I figure the answer is "Yes", but just wanted to make sure.

Thanks!

Can you go to the EVO Media folder (in the installation folder) and check if there are any MPG files? There may be a problem with the view in certain instances. I am hoping to have some sort of fix tonight.

Yes, there are several files now located in the directory named udpcap_XXX-XXX.ts that are 0KB with a couple files 2GB or larger. Just for fun I tried to play the large .TS files with VLC and PowerDVD with no luck. Should I try changing my default MPEG2 decoder to a different vendor using Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility? If so which decoder vendor do you recommend that I use?

Its not looking good then - I am thinking that the files with some size are encrypted... VLC or PowerDVD should have played them back

Trying another decoder might work, but I am not thinking so. You might want to use TSReader Lite to check out the files too.

Yep - I foresee there being a trial version for the next year.

I had previously used the Fusion Gold PCI card to decode OTA channels and it also worked using the DVICO software to decode QAM channels from my local cable carrier. I could tune in the basic QAM channels with no problem using the DVICO software and there were a few channels listed that were encrypted. However I have no way of knowing which channels were encrypted compared to the list I now see in EVO Console since the numbering scheme is different. I will try the TSReader Lite program tomorrow on the files that were created in the EVO Media Directory and report back. Tanks for the help.

EVO Console 1.1 Available!

EVO Console 1.1

We have received requests to make finding “viewable” channels in the scanned list easier. So we have added “Video Clip Capture” to the device menu.

This feature will capture 15 seconds of each channel as it cycles through your channel list. You can then browse the videos quickly to find real channels. Small files usually indicate non-viewable channels - while large files (>=15MB) are a good indicator of untapped viewable HD content!

We also cleaned up a few minor bugs along the way too.

I just downloaded the Fusion Lite ISO and have it running on a server.. with one exception.. I didn't put the card in it (the card is at home.. will do that later).. the server is running and states it is listening on port 80.. it has an IP address...

I installed the EVO console on another PC here on my network.. again, not on the PC that is running SageTV Server.. just a pc on my work network..

I thought that I might be able to see the console's GUI and verify it can get to the server...

However.. the console crashes when I run it! Should I be able to run the console on a PC that isn't the SageTV server? I realize I can't get any content this way.. it was more a 'proof of concept' attempt..

Can the server run if the encoder isn't present? Seems to be... but then I guess it isn't really aware of any content..

Silly attempt?? Probably.. just thought that the console would find the server and would come up empty.. I'll carry the hardware home tonight and try again.. correctly..
