@ke6guj:

"Wow, thats a trippy looking deal to have in a "high tech" cable delivery system."

For real.

"Does the RFD device hide behind the TV during normal usage?"

Yes.

"Does it have an little IR window in it, or does the remote have an IR window in the front of it?"

No.

"If not, more reason to think that TV2 and TV3 will be RF remotes. "

I would agree.

"Does the remote for the main TV, TV1, have an IR port on the remote?"

It has an IR window.

"Here is a link that mentions setting up a DVR to your box. IT uses IR and uses TV1's outputs. "

The only problem is that the image appears to use the Phone line?? So it connects the phone line from the STB to the wall. Then the wall from the phone line to the computer??? How does that work with a PVR?

Atleast that is what it shows for TiVO.

It seems more and more like it is not going to work from TV2 or TV3.

Huge bummer.

A Tivo requires a phone line to DL the guide. YOur Sage box is going to need either a full-time internet connection via ethernet/wireless or a dial-up phone connection.

So, just use that image as a guide. Have your STB hooked up normally to the wall so it gets TV into it. then take the output from TV1 and hook it upto your capture card, either the coax, or better yet, the s-video or composite connectors. Then set up a IR blaster, USB-UIRT in front of the STB and you should be set. YOu will only be able to record Sage on TV1, and TV2/3 will be still available in the house.

Unfortunately I need to get it to work on TV2.

If I bought this, would it be able to transmit the codes to the RF device I have attached to the coax?

Actually here is one that has

"Includes: Blaster + RF transmitter; RF receiver; wired IR emitter"

I am not sure how much these would help? Do you guys have any clue?

As far as I can tell, those devices are IR blasters, but that they use a RF signal to allow you to IR blast from the remote blaster. The RF signal is just to transmit the IR signal, not that it actually RF blasts to devices that use RF. The question would be, can Sage use that blaster?

As for needing to work on TV2, why? Are there any features that the STB gives you on TV1 that you don't get on TV2? If not, you should be able to just switch the cables and move that RFD device to the TV that was TV1. You would need to switch the remotes as well.

That IR blaster with the remote blaster, would be good to use if you need to keep the STB in a different room than the Sage box.

Wow, and I thought I was a vampire; conversations at 3 AM is pretty impressive.

Trying to sum up:

1. You have a set-top box with three outputs on it, that sits in one room of your house (presumably the living room). The Set top box has an IR port on it, which presumably controls the output to TV1

2. For every TV hooked up to receive cable, there is an RF receiver attached to the coax cable, and another coax cable runs to the TV. You use a specialized remote for each TV to connect to the RF receiver in that room.

3. You want to put a computer in the room with TV2.

4. AFAIK, there is no such thing as an RF blaster (a device that your PC uses to transmit native RF signals). There are IR blasters, and IR blasters that can also transmit IR-over-RF to another IR blaster.

I was going to suggest moving the set-top-box to your other room, but just realized that if there are three outs on the box, there are probably three coax connections in the wall behind the TV, so that won't work.

Still thinking aloud.

The transmitter probably has a blaster compatible receiver built into it allowing blaster code to be sent to STBs/computers in the second room via the serial output. It also sounds like there may be IR emitter ports for devices in the same room as the computer as well.

Have you considered a Media MVP setup? You could put the Sage box in the main room with an IR blaster, and then set up a media extender in the room with TV 2.
