The switch should be attempting to get an IP address from your router, that is the default setting. Check the router to see if you can see a DHCP entry for the switch. If the swich has been set to use a static IP address or BOOTP, then you'll probably need to reset the switch. And if you don't know the password, then there's another reason to reset the switch.

From the dell forum on resetting the password,
Yeah, unfortunately, thats one of the problems... To connect to it you have to use a null modem cable, and I don't have one anymore (haven't used one of those in YEARS!)

I'm 99.9% sure it's still set up as factory default though.

Ok, had a little time this evening, so figured I'd try some stuff...

Step 1 - replaced the Dell switch with the older NetGear 10/100.

The older Rev 1.0 worked right away first try!
The Rev 2.05 - No joy.

Used a different wire (bypassing the wall jacks) to go straight from the 2.05 to the switch - no Joy.

Moved the wire to go directly to the Linksys - No joy.

Swapped the installation locations of the 1.0 and 2.05. Again, 1.0 worked right away, 2.05 no joy.

I don't have time to do it tonight, but I think the next step is try my old Netgear router and see if that works any better.

1 interesting thing... The lights on the back of the 2.05 where the ethernet jack is - the green light NEVER comes on, only the amber one.

Any other suggestions guys?

I had the same thing happen to me. Out of the blue, my MVP quit working. What I learned was the BOOTP happens first, then the DHCP. The BOOTP is the Sage code loading into the Hauppage MVP. For some reason, SageTV v5 has a flakey BOOTP. I upgraded to SageTV v6 after beating my head against walls trying to resolve what seemed to be a network problem, and voila. No more problems.

Good Luck!
